Well, regardless of the current situation in Israel, Christ cannot come back for at least 7 years. Remember the tribulation lasts that long.
Having said that, the current situation may be part of the preparation for the beginning of the end-times, but a number of things have to happen first.
Personally, I don't believe the current mess plays a major part in the end-times. Granted, there are wars, and rumors of wars, but there are a lot of other "signs" and prophecies that have to be completed first.
For example, according to Ezek 38, 39 Israel has to be at peace (unwalled cities) and the enemy from the north (most believe that to be Russia) will have to attack Israel. At that point some 5/6 of the invading forces will be destroyed by divine intervention.
The current situation there is "troubling" but I am not losing sleep over it.

I do find the situation in Israel to be very troubling and I know at least in our family we have been speculating about certain things. As Christians, should we be prepared for anything that may happen?

I am in Virginia and have been a believer for as long as I can remember. I find nothing as rewarding as studying the bible. That's why I chose the screen name I did. I am a student of prophecy.
If you are interested in prophecy, I suggest you pick up a book called, Revelation Unveiled" by Dr. Tim LaHaye. It is written for the lay person to help understand the prophecies regarding the tribulation and the end times.
In any case, keep studying the Word. I also suggest you find some study guides to help you understand the language and the context of the scriptures. It helps a lot.
Keep praying and keep studying.

The cities from the north will be Russia, and China, who have already had military manuvers together, and are getting real chummy real quick. The other signs are there, the elements to build the third temple are all in place, Red Heiffers and all, the wars around the world, not just Isreal, the economy, the weather, the diseases, after all, who ever heard of bird flu 5 years ago?The fact that almost all the Jews from every country have gone back to Isreal and there are more there now then the Dispersion. The hatred for Christians, not in only communist and muslim countries, but gaining strength here as well, all the Word says will happen is lining up. Even taking the Gospel to all the earth is more possible now, and is happening more now.
Do I think it will happen tomorrow or even next year? No, probably not, but the more land Isreal gives up for peace, the closer we come. And if she gives up the Golan Heights, we will know we're close.

Why would God kill a bunch of Russians?
Because they attacked Israel? God promised them that He would bring them back to their promised land and bring them peace. For another nation to invade that land, and Israel, would be sure to solicit a huge response from God.

Jesus could return today. Or Israel could be wiped off the face of the earth and Jesus could wait another 2000 years.
We need to live our lives in according to his word whether Jesus comes back tomorrow or 10,000 years from now.
That means we need to be prepared spiritually for anything.
My personal feeling is that we (christians in the west) are in for a lot of suffering before we see the Lord return. We have no idea what it is like to suffer for our faith.

That bible code stuff works great when it goes backwards. but when it actually makes a future prediction it isn't any better that you or I would be.
Wanna make a bet on the comet.
Tell ya what, I'll give you 100-1 odds. If a comet hits the earth I'll give you $1,000,000, if it doesn't, you owe me $10,000. Wadda ya say? :-)

HI Fred,
Thanks for suggesting the book, "Revelation Unveiled". I have been wanting to find a easy to read and understand book that better explains Revelation. THANKS Brother!
You are very welcome. I have about read the covers off my copy. It is dog-eared, and full of hi-liter markings, paper clips etc.
I don't know if it is still in publication or not as my copy was printed several years ago.
I will do some searching online and see if I can find you a source. If so, I'll post it here.
If you have a used book store in your area you might check there, and look for other books as well. You can get some really good deals there.
Fred
Editted to add URL for source to find the book.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b/102-0102111-3656143?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=revelation+unveiled
The page shows at least two copies, one appears to be a new copy, the other used copies.
Good luck and happy studies.

Well I definitely think that this is nothing more than a disturbance for Israel. The Bible clearly says that there will be wars and rumors of war and to not be alarmed. I am not going to spend my time worrying about what if this is leading to the end of the world. My faith is in Jesus and I trust Him to take care of me and I am not wasting my time being scared.
That;s just my opinion...

I believe that God is waiting for the maturation of the church. Yes, the church is not mature. The church is a family and we have come short of that. If you call meeting in church for 3 hours only and doing as we please for the rest of the time, then we are not loyal. The bride is not ready yet and don't hold me to this, but the bride needs to mature and seriously. Pray about it.

Now don't hold me to this... but I think the Church is in a state of decline. Denominations are going astray, and new cults are arising each year. False gospels are being spread all over the place. It may get worse from here on. Christ is returning soon.

I believe that Christ will come back when He says He will. We really can't predict the time. Isn't there supposed to be a time of peace in the world before He returns? There sure isn't peace now. We have discussed this topic in church quite often. Most of our small congregation feel it is coming soon, but we don't know when.

Well as far as the enemy from the North is concerned and Russia, I would like to point out that was a cold war assumption since Russia was diametricly opposed to the US and the US supports Israel.
I would also like to point out that Russia has a large jewish population that is growing. There are nations to the north of Israel that have far more vitriol for Israel such as Syria, Iran, and hey (guess who is directly north of Israel) Lebanon.
That being said, no I don't believe that this is the begining of the end so to speak. Too much has to happen yet. We are alot closer though.
