1. Why do you feel Goths are misjudged?
Because of our appearance. People are shocked/disgusted by the way we look.

2. Are there any personal experiences you have had or know someone who has been harassed for being “gothic”?
Not at all. Myself, and other "goths" I associate with never have been harrased for being "gothic". If they've ever been harrased it's because of something else. I find I gain more respect than harrasment for being "goth".

3. What exactly is gothic?
On the surface it's someone who dresses in black and wears make-up to make them selves look "ugly" or to push the barriers of what is considered "beautiful". But being "gothic" also means you are against conforming to a religion or government or anything really (except the "gothic" subculture). Most goths also appreciate art, expecially poetry. When it comes to poetry and any art form, Goths prefer art with themes of death or sadness, nto because they are depressed, but because death, sadness and similiar themes bring out the extremes of emotion making the art more interesting. Death bring out the most extreme emotions in people, and this is why most Goths like poetry etc. that deals with death.

4. What role if any would you say that drugs play within this sub culture?
A very big role. Drugs help with bringing out ones true self and being "gothic" is all about being yourself. Drugs don't manipulate your mind, they free your mind.

5. What does gothic mean to you?
To me it's a lifestyle, but it's not my whole life. There more to me than just living a "gothic" lifestyle.

6. Explain how music influences this group?
Very much so. This subculture is basically based around music. Death rock, or goth rock, whatever you want to call it, is pretty much what shaped the gothic subculture.

7. What attracted you to the gothic scene?
At first it was the look, the dress code, the make-up etc. But then it was the idealogy and that's what attracts me to this subculture today.

8. How are vampires related to Goth?
Just another theme that "goths" enjoy. However, vampires are more something that used to be relevant to the goth scene in the 1980s more so than it is today.

9. What is one think you would really like people to know about Goth?
We are not creepy, scary people. Don't be afraid of us, we are just being who we want to be and not what the media and society tries to force us to be.

10. How has the gothic lifestyle affected your life?
Well, it's who I am today.

11. How has being gothic affected your family?
At first my family disapproved, now my parents respect me for it.

12. How does the clothing you wear relate to the way you feel?
It makes me feel free, it makes me feel beautiful.

13. What is one statement that people believe about Goths that you feel is wrong?
That were are creepy and scary.

14. What are you trying to express by being Gothic?
That I don't care what people think and that I'm not shaped by the barriers in society.

15. What role does religion play in this culture?
Most goths disapprove of religion because it's conformity.

16. How long have you been apart of this culture?
Somewhere between 5-10 years. It's hard to know how long I've been thinking like a goth as opposed to how long I've been living as a goth.

How do you view your faith combined with your chosen subculture, and did you get rejected at all by other goths for being Christian?

In the traditional Christian way or more of a New Age way?

My little sister is gothic but she believes in God and Jesus Christ...but she’s she believes more in evil. Not that she is evil, its just that’s what you see more than the love of Jesus Christ. Gothic’s to me are probably the most misunderstood people in the world. I think they enjoy the fact that people don't understand them and why they dress the way they do. I have no problem with them; they always came to me with the up most respect. All of them I have met are intelligent people very intelligent...interesting too...but Thanks for the details TheReflectingGod

That's kind of like punks and metal freaks. We get judged by appearance alone. Some Christians can't look back their fluffy little ideas. :)

Goth is more a dressing style than anything else.

why is it so shocking to learn that a goth is a christian

there is a difference between gothic and satanic, alot of people immediately assume the 2 go together.

I personally love goths i think they're beautiful! I really admire them.

Im not a goth myself, im more punk/skater. but we have goths in our church n theyre lovely people. Even goths that arent christians arent all tht bad.

I think that people forget a subculture can be as varied as the mainstream culture when they make the mistake of automatically associating goths with satanism. I always thought this was a positive Christian Gothic site:

When I think of gothic I usually think of the romantic fashions - victorian style dresses paired with dramatic (sometimes egyptian-like) makeup and lots of 80's music.

I find it crazy how sucultures change over the years. Back when I was growing up, there was no such thing as a Christian punk or goth. The subcultures were much different back then.

There was a few "goth" type Christian artists - Mike Knott and The Prayer Chain and Altar Boys and Joy Electric and India By Night...
I think Christian goth is mostly existenialism which is all there in Ecclesiastes. Plenty of books on Existential Christianity.

I don't know about a Gothic Christian, but all I know is that they wear a lot of black, which is a sign of mourning, but a Goth can dress however he wants to as long as he does not offend Christ.
