This past Sunday afternoon, I went to a church sanctuary dedication at a local church. The head superintendent was preaching the sermon. He was preaching on the passage where Jesus ran the moneychangers out of the temple. When he said, "call unto God", his cell phone rang. He had to stop his sermon, and answer it (or he looked at it and didn't like who was calling). He went on into his written sermon, looked at his notes, and his cell phone rang again.
I couldn't help blurting out, "Maybe it is God calling you", and started to softly sing "Jesus on the mainline, tell him what you want".
Anyway, the sermon was not very spiritual, and the cell phone gave even further distraction....Maybe it was God calling this elected "preacher".

I can understand the preacher forgetting to turn his cell phone off before starting his sermon.
I have no understanding of his not turning it off when it rang the first time. He should have apologized to the congregation, and made a point of turning it off.
My impression is that it shows his real opinion of what he was doing up there.

My pastor sometimes leaves his cell phone on,but he always tell us when he does. The reason why he leaves it on is that he meets strangers and invites them to church and gives them his cell phone number so they can call him if they get lost or what not.Yes ppl have called a few times. Everyone in my church is ok with that, cause thats what christians should be doing leading ppl to Christ and church:)

Wow... Can't believe that he didn't turn it off after the first time or something. I could see if he had it in his pocket on vibe or something but not actually ringing. Surprise that he didn't apologize it happens in our church to but it isn't the pastors that goes off, sometimes ppl forget or something bumps against it maybe and turns it on like in a purse if something pointy is laying on top of the phone or something. I know I would have said the same thing maybe just whispering it to my neigbor and start signing that song in my head or very softly)good song BTW):)

my minister friend never turns off his phone, but it is on silent and he gives it to his wife before he steps up to the pulpit, it is not uncommen to see her get up and go answer it, but he does not stop a cermon to do so.

Maybe it was a sign that he had moneychangers in his life, and that he should leave his phone at home.

Maybe he's just not very 'techy' and thought he had turned it off both times.

He is only a member of the body. It is not good to focus on what man teaches (Ps. 118:18). Man, including me, are unreliable to taking total control. Remember, that man is frail.
