By definition a lay person is anybody who is does not carry a degree to serve God. In the body of Christ if you have papers to do your job (lets say a pastpr who went to seminary and has a degree is considered clergy an old fasshioned word that simply means educated)

Lay people are the majority of the people in the church and technically since God does bnot require a degree to serve Him the lay people are just as qualified to preach, teach be missionaries etc.

What is their job? well the best job description I can think of is found in Mth 28:18-20 and Mark 16 last few verses....the great commission. We are all sent out by God to preach the good news of the Gospel- not just to our neighbors and family but to the nations, to teach and disciple others, to baptize beleivers(yep thats what Jesus said), pray for the sick that they may be healed, to cast out demons - see people deliverd of opression, etc. etc

As a lay person you ought to be preaching, teaching, baptizing, praying for people, ministering to people where they ar at

A lay person is one who gets out the front to minister or preach but don't have a title or a Dp Th or some other such letter after their name. By the way all Christians have letters after their name. Mine is B.A. So is yours. I also have B.H.S. That'l give you all something to think about!

From my understanding, any Christian who is not a pastor, and who goes to Church... is a Layperson.

We are brethren and leaders in our own gifting (Rev 1:6 and Matt. 23: 8)
