I know LCMS is a big synod:thumbsup: , (I've belonged there twice in my life), but are there any WELS folk out there?
Most every post here deals with lcms questions.
Am I the only, lonely wels person here?
I'm happy to converse with you lcms folk...just wondering if I'm alone in the CF world:D !

As I read through these posts though, I think you folks are way smarter in theology than me! I hope I can contribute.

We're not only here for theology but sharing. Whatever you want to share. Joys, pains, hopes, anything. Some of us are in flux as far as denoms go, some are secure in their stance. This is the conservative sub forum and a lot of the action goes on in the Theological crusis forum were we debate anything with anybody or give explanations on our beliefs, but we still dialogue in here. THis is supposed to be a safe haven for us conservatives but then it also will bring in the liberals who also belong to the LCMS and WELS. Sofar, I'm LCMS conservative /confessional which is somewhat synonomous to the AALC and WELS.
Anyway Welcome :)

No need to feel intimidated. I am as dumb as they come & I have been accepted. :D They are a kindly bunch. We sometimes get heated in our discussions but no one had ever drawn blood yet. ^_^

Of course they might allow you to take some blood for the bloodmobile if the church is sponsoring it. Jesus shed his blood to give us life and we can model his behavior in this way (though our blood doesn't have the same power to forgive sins as his did.)

Welcome! Those of us here in the midwest take many things for granted when it comes to picking out a WELS church...there's one every 15 feet, or so :D !
Way to go, on finding the only the WELS church in your state. The LCMS folks here on CF are fun to talk with, though. You will like them :groupray: .

You must be in upper mid-west. The nearest WELS church from me is 45 miles and then after that about another 110 miles. Wish one was closer. I'd like to visit.

Hello Everyone

Welcome back SJ!
It's amazing to read the vast amount of knowledge in this forum - It's a little intimidating when wanting to post your opinion .. You double, triple check your verbiage. :) I'll have to sit during my lunch to truly absorb some of the things discussed here. It's great though, I love reading people's thoughts and opinions ... I love reading those very opinionated posts and see humble people expressing their ideas with words of love and support.
*I pray someday soon we'll have a church closer to you, Radidio. :)

Our family is WELS. :D Definitely not a church every 20 feet here. 50 miles to the nearest on the US side of the border and 2.5 hours to the nearest on our side (Mexico).

I must live in a geographical anomoly then. I live in AZ and there are two WELS congregations within 10 minutes of my house. I also have an LCMS closeby and a couple of ECLA nearby too. You think God is telling me to be a Lutheran? hehehehe

I listen to alot of podcasts and I find that most of the religious ones I listen to are of the LCMS variety. One of my favorites is Wrestling with the Basics.

Just to say HI,
I am a newbie to this forum. Have you ever heard of a church named "South East Asia Lutheran Yuen Long Church"? It is located a remote district in Hong Kong. You may be stunned that the ROOT of our church can be traced back to WELS? Yes. It's true!
I never thought that I could meet brothers and sisters belonging to WELS on-line! So nice that I have found this forum! Haha!

HI, sorry for my late reply!
About our church's history? Fine!
The name of our church is South Asian Lutheran Evangelical Mission (SALEM) which was established in Hong Kong by a group of evangelists from WELS, US in 1977.... so our church is approaching 30 anniversay, ha! Thanks God! In the first 20 years or so, our church was still financially dependent on WELS, but since about 10 years ago, we became financially independent.
Now, we have eight branch churches scattered in different districts throughout Hong Kong and I have been attending the one located in a quite remote district called Yuen Long. Now, the whole congregation of SALEM in Hong Kong is about 1000. SALEM also operates one kindergarten, one secondary school and four study centres in Hong Kong.
In recent years, WELS in Hong Kong mainly focused on the work of "LifeNet" which aims include doing missionary work in Mainland China and providing social services to families in Hong Kong. One of our beloved Evangelist is Paul who was sent from WELS and who has been working very hard to teach English, preach sermons, and do missionary work in Mainland China. We benefit a lot from him. He has a very nice wife called Mary who is teaching English in a primary school.
Hope that with the blessings of God, WELS and SALEM will continue to grow locally and worldwide.. so that many many more souls could be saved, God's love and grace be praised.
