My church could be described as rather charismatic.

I was a non-denominational Charismatic first. My church went bonkers. Now we are in a Southern Baptist Convention Baptist church. And while the theology is solid, I long for the freedom to just dance before the Lord with flags and banners, or to clap, or jump up and down or shout. I long to see the Holy Spirit lead the "agenda" on Sunday morning. I miss people being prayed for, and healed.
Every now and then a stray hand or two will reach up in worship and that seems to be tolerated ok, but for the sake of not offending, that's about it.
Do you actually belong to a Baptist church that exercises the Gifts of the Spirit?!

No- I go to a Vineyard church where I live, but I do visit the old Southern Baptist church where I used to go as the Lord leads. Which is cool I like to get out the box and see what God is doing.
When I go though I wish the people would be excited about worshipping God it's kinda like you had said in your post. But I still worship the Lord there like I do at my home church. I'm sure I get a few stares from people when I raise my hands, but I'm there to see Jesus and get what he has for me. I can't let fear of man have that edge over me.

No not really as we sometimes
Are in-between old-school and using
New school stuff at my church
But I wouldn't call it charasmatic at all
No way at all!

I guess what I mean by charismatic would be the gifts of the spirit (prophecy, words of knowledge/wisdom, tongues, and interpretation of tongues) are they in use in your life and church.

Yeah but wouldn't you find that
In a Church of God church?
Those things that you just mentioned!!

I have come from a charasmatic Baptist Church and now I am in a traditional one. I so miss the freedom to raise one's hands in worship as I was used to. We also get a couple of stray hands risen during worship. No one claps in the faster choruses unlike my old church. I think things are slowly changing though. They use to have only an organ and piano playing but now we have a bass and an electric guitar(played by yours truly) , and a set of drums. So worship services have changed in the last 5 years.PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!
The majority of my current church are cessationists(gifts died out with the apostles) but we have a few charasmatics amongst us.  :amen:

Oh I see what you mean. In that case, my church isn't quite as charismatic. We do believe that the spiritual gifts, such as prophecy, tongues, etc. are still displayed in the church today. My pastor even gave a short sermon series on it (in which he also showed from the Scripture why the gifts did not die out at any point in time). But we do not prophesy or speak in tongues during a service. Rather, we tend to believe that such gifts will more commonly be displayed in other settings, such as perhaps during a smaller meetings of Christians.
That said, I certainly don't want to put God in a box. God can display the gifts of the Spirit however he likes, and if he deems that this should be during a worship service, then who am I to stand in the way of God?

If Tongues were used like they were in the NT era this wuldnt even be a discussion.
BTW this making a show of church is kinda ridiculous, its not about entertainment. I also find it somewhat interesting that we say things like "we need this this and this so the spirit can lead us".
Why do we need anything if the spirit is going to lead us?
EDIT: One more thing, if the NT believers acted like alot of the "Charasmatic" believers act today, they would be mistaken for demon possessed people.

I've never been to a Pentecostal service, but I've heard stories of people going a little wild with the use of tongues. I remember reading an account on this forum in which someone once saw a man jump up in church to speak in a tongue, flail his arms around so as to hit someone in the face (by accident I assume), and continue going on. I agree that orderly worship should be maintained, since it says,
What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up. If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret. But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God. Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged, and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. (1 Corinthians 14:26-32)
However, the importance of orderly worship doesn't explain to me why some people believe in the doctrine of cessation. 1 Corinthians 13:10 seems as if it would have to be severely misinterpreted in order to show that "the perfect" refers to the completed canon of the Bible.
But that's just my opinion. I admit I've never heard the opposing argument, so I might be missing something.

I no longer attend a baptist church cause the one I attended beleived the gifts had ceased....however I visit a friends church and they were fundemental baptist, but have just recently chanded the name on the church to non denom as they wanted to be open to the gifts of the HS. They are still pretty conservative, and would probably be shocked to hear a tounge given, but they are fairly open. Prophecy is seen in that church but I dont think they would recognize it as such

Your post sounds a little hostile, and I'm sorry you feel badly against charismatics. Though we may have different views we are still family.
May the Lord bless you and your family in Jesus name.
