I started at UPS tonight. Tonight was just the first of a series of classes I have to go through to work at the hub. One of the guys they brought in to speak to us was telling us of the tuition programs they have.
They have two:
Metroversity: This includes the University of Louisville and 2 other Community Colleges in the area. If you are in this program they pay 100% of your tuition, give you 65$ per class for books, allow you to take out an $8,000 loan of which they will pay off in four years for you (you just pay interest). For every semester of 6 hours that you complete they give you a $500 reward. Every 30 credit hours they give you a reward of $600, and upon graduation you get a reward of $1,000. One can get as many degrees as they want through this program at the undergrad level.
Earn and Learn: Now this applies to me. They give me $1500 per semster, 3k per year with a lifetime maximum of $15,000.
My bible college is ridiculously expensive even with the cooperative program and this $1500 of help. I have to take out loans to pay for it. Now, I could transfer to UofL and get the nursing degree that I plan on getting from here, for free. Or I can stay here and accrue an awesome theological education but go in much more debt. Once I get my BA the Seminary actually has awesome tution assisstance for grad students. They get much more help than I do and its basically like going for free if your southern baptist.
Part of me wants to switch. Part of me wants to stay. Both have perks. What do you think?
OH! If your in the Louisville area and want to goto college, I highly suggest you apply at UPS (especially as they have this billion dollar expansion thing going on and are hiring like crazy).

Hey, that's wonderful news! Congratulations on the new job as well.
My question is what are you planning on doing when you graduate? An undergrad in a professional career can sometimes help you do what God is planning for your life. I know a few people who started with a BBA, or BSN, or even a BS in Psych who went on after that and got their MDiv or DTh, and it's helped them in the practical sense of what their doing.

Definitely take advantage of the opportunity at U of L. U of L's medical program is incredible. I'm assuming one of the other schools is JCC.
You're in the right place if you're looking for any type of medical degree. U of L is awesome for that.

I am not sure where you are in this (your heart) but I can say, if you can get through with your education without paying anything, do it. If at all possible do not take out student loans. If they will pay for your classes, you can purchase your books online via Amazon or other places used and should fall within that $65 limit. If you still wish to continue to theology degree you can continue with that after the general education that will be paid for. Can you get both of these programs? IOW after you complete the UOL courses they will give you money to further your education? If so then you can return to the theology degree, if not, you will have an education to get you into a better paying position that might reimburse you for the education or you will be able to pay for it. Many companies only reimburse if it directly applies to the position, but there are still some out there that do not levy this requirement.
Of course search your heart if you feel this is what God is presenting to you to switch, but it sounds very practical to me. There is nothing wrong with obtaining your general degree first, and it seems senseless to let this get past you when it is free!!:)

What do you think?I'm sure you have asked God, but it strikes me His opinion is the only one that counts. No doubt either career will serve God, but which one did God call you to?

It's not irresponsible to seek counsel. The question is not so much of a calling as how as much as it is "how can I combine the two?" Nursing will get me into Tehran for example way easier than degrees only in Christian Apologetics/Theology. I am wondering which one I should do first. I mean, I've already got two years of my undergrad complete in theology after I've already changed from studying Criminal Justice for two years. Part of me just wants to stay here and get it done.

Aaahhh to be young with all sorts of options ahead of ya!
This is no divine revelation or anything but I'd take that nursing school tuition deal at U/L.
You can learn theology at your convenience--nursing is indeed a real "key" to get you into all sorts of places. A close friend of mine just finished LPN school and is now working toward his RN. You can go ANYWHERE and get work in the health field doing all sorts of different things. And if your experience is anything like my friend's you will learn more things about the ways of God in the classroom of the real world (and it don't get anymore real than working in the health field-hospitals, nursing homes, etc) than a lifetime of seminars and book studies and lectures.
My 2 cents...I'm sure you'll make the right decision

Gods’ call seems to happen quite differently for everyone. But I tend to believe our calling is what is set in front of us for the time being. I don’t think you will go wrong with following through with nursing, now you can get through this in less than two years (RN), after that you can continue in your theological studies. Menno had an excellent point. Just as with any “training” understanding our purpose here becomes clearer with interacting with the world on a daily basis. And then going to scripture to identify the issues God has presented for us to learn, if that is making sense? I do much better when I am living my day-to-day life and studying when confronted with issues surrounding that, the people I interact with, how I interact, or what is going on around me. I have grown the most in that situation than “classroom” study. That is something most will tell you about nursing too (and more than likely any profession) you can study all you want but real learning comes by doing (experience). In fact, many I know that are the best pastors or leaders in the church have come from this walk of experience instead of straight out of book learning. I really feel that the RN schooling (or even CJ completion) is a smart choice. Unless you feel God is leading you otherwise. But remember God expects us to be practical too; there is nothing wrong with being wise about our choices. Sometimes our path we think will get us straight to where we want to be isn’t always the best path, or the path God has planned. The detour sometimes is the best thing that ever happened.
AND NO STUDENT LOANS IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!! Trust me there you won’t regret it!

Some people have their callings sooner rather than later while others have theirs later rather than sooner
But that is how the Lord works
Because the Lord wants us to conform in His image and will regardless of the profession that we choose!

Well, option one sounded very interesting, especially since the you'd get help at seminary with your BA...which you'd have earned for free, if I read correctly. But, it all depends on what you think God would have you do. :prayer:
