Are you interested in designing the CF Character Items? Read below!

The Armory team currently has a couple of openings for designers. If you are interested in joining, please check out the team criteria below. If you qualify, you can submit no more than two items in the specified format (all below).

Captain America, Teshi and I will evaluate the submissions based on the following:

Team members:
1. Must have a post count of at least 500 posts (negotiable depending on other factors)
2. Must be a CF member for at least 3 months
3. Must be able to create transparent images that are 81x180 px
4. Must display ability to create good quality items (subjective)
5. Must display ability to work in a team setting (subjective)
6. Must display ability to be diplomatic with other CF members (subjective)
7. Must be able to take directions and make suggested modifications to a design (subjective)
8. Must be willing to adopt vision and direction of the armory design team
9. Must be able to display knowledge of a graphics program of choice (PhotoShop, Paint Shop, ect...)

In addition, please understand that consistent absence from actively participating in the Team Effort will result in your release from the team.

Create your item/s to fit either the male or female dolls (some items may fit both). Please make sure they are transparent!! This is very important. Post your finished items here in this thread.

The design team doesn’t have the resources or the time to provide tutoring on the applications or the process of creating character items. We will not be able answer those types of questions in this thread. However you can check this thread for suggestions, tools, techniques, etc. http://www.christianforums.com/t2275606 (http://www.christianforums.com/t2275606)

We will choose up to three members to join us at one time, so that we can give new members the attention and training to get up and running.. We will make our decision either as soon as we have 3 fully qualified candidates or January 15 ...whichever comes first.

Free graphics software downloads (provided for your convenience -- designers can use any application that allows them to create designs in the required format and quality).

Download Paint.net: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/PaintNET/1096481993/2 (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/PaintNET/1096481993/2)
(Must download Microsoft.net framework first)

Download Gimp: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html (http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html)

Make images transparent (if your graphics software doesn't do this):
http://www.gifworks.com/image_editor.html (http://www.gifworks.com/image_editor.html) and do the following:

1. Click "File"
2. Click "Open"
3. Upload your image
4. Click "Edit"
5. Click "Transparify"

One final note: We ask that only applicants post in this thread, it's not meant to become a general chat area. We will request moderator help to keep the thread tidy if necessary.

Thanks, and good luck!

Yay for Defender! I remember you were in the Armory Team long before I was, so I'm sure you'll be great :)

I know one person... she's an amazing artist :) But she doesn't have much time to get online recently (and I miss her a lot :(). She told me once that when she gets a tablet, she'll probably try to join the team :)

Here's a try... Didn't take long to make. It's a pair of ravepants. I've noticed that there aren't any raveclothes among the other items.

Can you place it on a character?

I made it on the character, but when I try to put it as a layer on the character GIMP messes the colors all up. But I opened it in my web developing software under a colored background and saw it was indeed transparent.

Yup. Gimps tricky that way.

Try this.

Open a new file.

Then open the body gif file as a layer.

Then open the shirt as a layer.

Gif files have the colors indexed. When you open a gif file in gimp, the indexing restricts what colors the overall file will have, based on the colors of the first layer.

That drove me crazy one morning when I first started using Gimp, until I realized that always starting with a new file and *adding* .gif layers to it was the way to go.

I'm not sure why, but it looks like your graphics program is saving the gif file with low resolution. And the gif file of the dress only has a white background rather than transparent.

The color pattern is very pretty! Try giving the dress outline a slightly darker color. If you can do some shading, that will give the dress a more 3d effect.

virginia4Jesus
26th October 2006, 02:46 PM
do you know any Adobe? Like I said yesterday was my first try... How do I Copy paste a layer with the transparent background to a new doc?

ravenscape
26th October 2006, 03:40 PM
I don't use Adobe, so I may not be too much help. In Gimp (the program that I use), I save my multi-layer image under a new file name, and then I delete all the layers that I don't want. I save again, and I have a gif with only the layers I want.
