Good idea?? Maybe??
Anyway I was thinking about schlocking a "travel" type promotion to them just for "yuks" and see if we could get some of their learned minds over here. I was think about something like this.
"Have that armchair adventure that will make you the envy of the Lutheran community. Come join us on an exciting adventure to exotic places were heterodox and apostacy rule in other forums and sub forums. See the unwashed masses (or baptismal washed) in their natural habitat and surprise them with your vast scholarly knowledge and set their hearts "ablaze" or bring them to there knees in a "confessional" posture.
When the excitment wears thin then relax with fellow Lutherans in their own subforums and sit back and discuss your favorite theology like "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin" or?.... Witness to heathens as they drop by and feel like you have been to the darkest confines of Africa on a missionary trek........................."
Need some more promotional input from you guys/girls to see if we can entice them here............or not! Good idea...... bad idea or just leave it alone.
:D :D ;) ;)

I don't know if you can promote other sites like that on the board. Check their guidelines first.

I'm all for it if you can do it.

In the past it has been frowned upon to ask LQ people here mainly because of the volatility that LQ itself presents. If you ask someone to come to this forum be prepared for the possibility that they will make trouble. Be selective about who you ask because things could get very heated. I lurk there now, but when I posted there I was a much differenct person than I am here.

It seems to me if you really desire to talk to the people on LQ there is nothing stopping you now.
There's no real reason to specifically invite them here. This place is no secret.
But as far as inviting people, I tell others about the forum here quite frequently, and I would hope the rest of you do too. I'd like to see a lot more Lutherans participate here, but frankly I don't think most Lutherans, much less other denominations could care less about most of the debates going on at LQ.

I am all for inviting people but I agree that a borad invitation will only cause trouble. As a new Mod I would like to avoid that, but I don't want to hamper your efforts to recruit new members either, so just suggest that they carefully read CF rules before they post otherwise I might lose some hair if Ya knows what I mean??? :D

Agreed with Jim. Whoever points them to GT will face my wrath. :P

Well so much for that idea. I might just pick a few out and PM them and not post anything on the board. As I said on this board before I would like to get the Preus's on here. I guess a little discression is advisible.

I think that the folks at LQ would take one look at GT... or TCL for that matter... and would run screaming from the forum!^_^ ^_^ ^_^

Isn't it fun to watch how young people who are attracted to each other have to act tough and throw a few insults just to show they aren't really interested?
Just like a romance novel in real life.
Ah to be young again.

Well, he can always ignore my advice and go check it out anyway...but the warning is for his own sanity. ;)

The discussion at Lutherquest certianly in't for the faint of heart.
I would really like to see some of them here, especially the Preus's, but we don't want to "steal sheep" or anything like that.

I am a very conservative Anglican, yet I have looked at Conservative Lutheranism before......
And sometimes I feel like Katherine Schori reading those sites lol.

What is so unusual about this LQ tribe?
This is the most fascinating post and reaction that I have seen in some time.
Who are these humans?
What is it that they believe and defend that is so unusual?
Thanks,
Ed

See for yourself (http://www.lutherquest.org/cgi-bin/discus40/discus.cgi). I think my husband blames LutherQuest for me going East. ;)

I found Marv's post in there ! :D :D :) .
Interesting group of people in that land of LQ.
When I read their posts it is like going through fog.
They are definitely moving in what they want to say, but what are they saying? :)
Yet they seem to understand each other in their native LQ language.
They have points and counter points, like many other creatures in different lands.
Yet they seem to be so civil in their disagreement that the point between disagreement and agreement seems to be a gray area.
I wonder why they need moderators? For spelling? Perhabs, since there were no misspells in the highly complex posts I've seen.
Marv's post was long, but it had life in it. It was alive. :)
I saw the direction. I saw sparks flying at every turn.:)
But some posts in that LQ universe behind the mountain are so foggy and dense and "slow", one feels being trapped in it and desperate to get out.
These LQ creatures are certainly fascinating in their deliberate methodology and particular fellowship that is fascinating from a perspective of study.
And what is fascinating to me is that they seem to be happy in their habitat of the LQ land.:)
I looked at lemmings, and these were fascinating animals that lived in their highly adapted to them habitat, mated when needed and then just went back to their odd looking yet satisfying world of lemmings.:)
The wonders of God never cease to amaze me, since the inhabitants of the mysterious land of LQ are also the servants of God. :)
Thanks ByzantineDixie.:)
Fascinating.
Ed :)

Actually Colabomb my find some relief from them. At least they won't be calling him a hateful misogynist/homophobe as has been a recent problem for him in light of the current controversies of the ECUSA

Actually they are a highly intelligent group that are entertained by their own rhetoric. Originally started , I think as a confessional forum but then branched out into unilateral cross firing from different persuasions of all Lutheran synods. They seem a little "cliquish" to begin with but will then warm up to you if they think you have a somewhat nominal mental capacity.
I get too bogged down in the explanations and loose interest quickly
If you are highly argumentative like some people in this forum you would probably like it.

Am I highly argumentative then? I've always enjoyed LQ for the things I can learn from the confessional pastors on there. There was one who really taught me Law and Gospel without his postings being directed toward me, but I learned a lot from reading what he wrote.
I also enjoy the Devotions by Pastor Preus!

Actually they are a highly intelligent group that are entertained by their own rhetoric. .
I think we are also entertained by our own "rhetoric", although it could be considered by some as goofy as compared to highly intelligent. :)
My short dissertation on beer in another thread certainly qualified as a rhetoric, ... although not highly intelligent. :)

I think we are also branching out into some cross firing in the context of synods. :)
They seem a little "cliquish" to begin with but will then warm up to you if they think you have a somewhat nominal mental capacity.
We are too ! :)
Maybe with a slight amendment on a nominal mental capacity with that of tasting beer, having beer, promoting beer and supporting beer while potluck is being setup and carefully covered to keep away the curious. :)
I get too bogged down in the explanations and loose interest quickly.
I think they would agree to the same. :)
If you are highly argumentative like some people in this forum you would probably like it.
Very tempting.:)
I would probably not post there because they do not have a threaded layout, as here ... and for other reasons :).
But if they come here :):) ... who is that Pastor Preus anyway?
His name was mentioned twice already. :)
Thanks,:)

who is that Pastor Preus anyway?
There's an entire clan of Preus' who are all very confessional :) They are well-educated, faithful men with excellent writing skills!
