Hello all,
I am starting this thread as my way of easing my angst. This Greek stuff is difficult. We are using The Voelz text and there are some things I wish he would have explained differently. Those of you who have had Greek at the St. Louis Sem will probably agree or disagree with me. Thank goodness for retakes on the quizzes. I need all the help I can get.
Oh well enough for now.

I don't know anything about greek but I got kicked out of Concordia Teachers College in Seward Nebraska for speaking in a rude "tongue". They even took my letter jacket back.....geezzz.....

I'm sorry it's a difficult time right now with the Greek. Is there someone around who can tutor you that maybe you can exchange services (a barter of some sort...what subject are you good at)?

Ah, reminiscing... or maybe it's flash backs...
Have you begun ramming your head into the brick walls yet? (It sometimes helps.)
Seriously, Greek can either be quite easy (note I didn't say simple) or not. Some people just pick it up better than others. Those that get Greek OK will most likely have more difficulty with Hebrew. Of course the opposite is commonly true as well. (Unless of course you are cheating and going Alternate Route, in which case you'll only get half an education [no Hebrew or OT exegeticals] and still get a call.)
Have you entered into the 'declension from hell" yet (3rd declension)? You don't know real fun until...
Oops, again, I digress. One of the more common difficulties are participles. If you can get those down, you'll do fine.
If there is any way I can be of service to you, just let me know.

I taught myself Greek using Machen's book, then Robert Hoerber (CSL) used Molly Whitaker's book. Having taught Greek 3-4 times, I normally used Molly and Voelz once. I didn't care for Voelz's approach, but that is probably just me.
Hang in there. The blessings far outweigh the grief and angst now.
In Christ's love,

I am sure by now you have heard the phrase "Live, eat and breathe Greek." Seems like that is what one does to study Greek.
You took be back about 25 years when my husband was studying Greek!
Hang in there and prayers.

Well, I had to cut and paste it to a Word document, and then use a Greek font to come close to the actual letters, but I think I've got it.
It says "The slave loved the virgin and prayed to God for her."
Am I close?

Close. I will have to check my answer guide.
