Radidio opened an interesting topic concerning Scriptural qualification of elders.

This brings me to another angle of thought concerning this.

We are saying that we are closer to the Scriptures than all the others.

And whenever someone says it, there are cheers from others.
OK. Let's test whether it is true or not.

It is a known fact that "religion makes a man".

If we are so much closer to the Scriptures than the others, why don't we have many Scripturally qualified elders?

It is not that hard to qualify, yet when one reads Scriptural definitions it "seems" impossible.:)

I found the same dilemma in my previous Baptist church.
One of the reasons I left is because they think that it is impossible to qualify - a foolish statement of a content and self-righteous believer.

The fact that it is hard to find qualified elders is because we are not as spiritually solid as we claim we are.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Ed
Edited to clarify - I re-read this and it might seem that I left because I was declined to be an elder. :)
It is not so.
I have no desire to be one. :)

Or we're just all sinful humans?

Or we're just all sinful humans?
Qualifications for being an elder are written for sinful humans.

Yet we often excuse our disobedience with a statement that we are sinful.

You think that could be true?

Thanks,

I would think it's a matter of Law and Gospel.
