As I am sure you are all aware the General Convention of the ECUSA has been taking place this week. There are understandably a wide range of emotions that members are feeling. Unfortunately one result has been a large number of posts in breach of the forum rules. It is therefore important to remind all members what is and what is not acceptable posting behaviour.

First of all since ECUSA's convention is a contentious issue among Anglicans, non-Anglicans should avoid weighing in on either side, neither with debate of their own, nor with support for any contender. Such posts are violations of rule 1.4; they will be deleted and may lead to the poster being warned.

Secondly if report is received regarding any thread that deals with the General Convention then it will be closed immediately. This is unfortunate but necessary considering the huge number of reports which are being received at the moment and the relatively small number of mods. We will endeavour to reopen all closed threads once any offending posts have been deleted.

The forum rules will be strictly adhered to during this time. I ask that all posters ensure they are familiar with the forum rules (http://www.christianforums.com/faq.php?faq=rule_3#faq_staff_protocol). The forum rules can be found http://www.christianforums.com/rules. Unless the circumstances are exceptional, the warning protocol (http://www.christianforums.com/faq.php?faq=rule_3#faq_staff_protocol)from the rules will be followed strictly: you will receive a contact on a first offense, a warning on a second offense, and a temporary forum-specific ban from STR if repeat offenses create a need to promote peace.

In the meantime may these words from St. James rest on all of our hearts:

How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire! And the tongue is a fire. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse those who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this ought not to be so.

Regards,
Pamela Mclean
on behalf of the STR moderators and the Congregational Forums staff.

*SUPERVISOR HAT ON*

I just want to say I fully support the actions of the moderators in STR.

There have been a few complaints made about staff closing threads, and suggesting that they have an axe to grind. This is not the case. I want to offer you an explanation of what has been going on so that you can understand why there might be a few more closed threads than normal.

You may have noticed the restructure going on at CF. As a result Pamela has been moderating STR on her own for quite a few weeks. Karen has just joined her in the last week. TomUK will join them when his training is complete.

But for the time being there are only 2 moderators in STR. Yesterday I counted the number of reports that had been recieved for STR in the previous 3 days. There were 50+ reports received in 3 days. This is a forum that normally generates maybe 1 or 2 a day tops.

Pamela and Karen have been working very very hard to stay on top of these. The usual action when threads get out of hand is to:

close them,
act on any rule violations,
clean up the thread, and
re-open it.this is a time consuming process, and when there are so many threads with rule violations it is even more so.

So that is why there are so many closed threads. It is not that Pamela and Karen are trying to shut you down, or have a political point to make - I don't think they have had time to even consider the political side of it. They have systematically shut down any thread on GC where there has been a report, before it can get further out of hand.

Also, due to the mass of reports we are accepting offers of help from moderators outside of STR. So if you receive a contact, or read a mod-hat from someone who is not an anglican, they are acting on full authority of the Ecumenical Team, and along guidelines we have established to deal with the influx of reports in STR.

So can I please ask - think before you post. What is a quick vent for you creates work for your fellow anglicans. In fairness we are treating every poster the same. One contact and then a warning. If you are not anglican you will have your posts removed, and a contact or warning given to you.

I also want to thank Pamela and Karen for doing an awesome job in here - they are both very hard workers, and are doing there best to make STR a place where all anglicans can post without fear of being flamed or baited. If you want to give them some positive feedback, please utilise the feedback button underneath their avaters. I am sure they would appreciate it.

If you have any questions or concerns please post them here, or if more appropriate, pm me.

In Christ
