VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL! ^_^ ^_^ ^_^
Ours started yesterday, and they are looking for treasure or some such thing. I will try to pay more attention to the themes, etc. today. My kids are all asleep on the sofa and they have to go in half an hour. I think yesterday wore them out!
Anyone else participating in a VBS? Helping, running it, sending your kids, staying clear? Tell us about it!
And I'll report more later too.

Staying clear.
You know Anne. She doesn't suffer fools gladly, and if you take your message down to the level of the average 10-year-old, she feels patronized. So she hasn't had anything to do with Sunday School or the Sunday School teachers for about five years. She won't even volunteer to help now that she's a teenager, because she's offended that they (in her opinion) patronize the other children.
And Rachel is Anne's absolute loyalist.
It's a pity. She hasn't given the teachers a chance to get to know her; and those with whom she does have a good relationship she simply exempts from the catagory of "Sunday School Teacher" so they don't mitigate against her prejudices.
Ballet Summer School may be cancelled (I find out today) and with VBS not an option I'm not going to know what to do with them.
Want a 13-year-old live-in babysitter for two weeks?

Hmmm... I'm involved in running the 'Banana Band' for our VBS in august. I'm going to be on electric guitar, I think I've got a keyboardist, bass player and singer all lined up...

I can't believe you have 5 more weeks of school! What is the yearly schedule?
Good for you for being a leader for your Holiday Club. Best wishes in that. And good luck. I will pray for you. :D
j/k :) It's a great ministry, and lots of fun, but the end of the week is such a relief

Beginning of September to end of July :(
My own kids are in independent schools, and they finish 2 weeks before me  . I have to get a job in an independent school

Thanks. We are having a planning meeting tonight, so I hope everything starts to take shape.

Do you use the SU materials, Naomi? We're using the 'Going Bananas' material from about 8 years ago--our church in the UK loved that one so much they ran it for two consecutive years.

I don't think we are using a specific syllabus. I think we will be cobbling the whole thing together from various sources, including much of it homespun. I'm trying not to get too involved with the decision making - I only went to one meeting as an interested PCC member (knowing that they would want money from the church), and managed to get myself signed up to lead a group.
We tend to use CPAS material for most our our children's work, though.

Of course - 2 weeks at Christmas, 2 weeks at Easter, and half-term breaks in each term. Total of 13 weeks off.
