Back during the lent season before Christiams I was challenged to take a close look at my relationship to food. WHen the thought of a fast on certain days came up I was willing to try it, but for a whole season I was unwilling to even think about it.

But I did start to wonder if i had made afood a crutch or another god when I was not willing to give it up. AT that point even though I decided not to fast along with you folk i did start to take better care of myself, watched what i ate and have been excercising.

Because of this I have lost 72 pounds since December and am now down to 168 as of this morning. I feel better, look better, and feel as though i am doing well in my fight against one of my favorite things . . . food.

So inadvertantly looking into Orthodoxy was the best thing that happend to my health and well being.

Just thought I would share that, and before anyone decides to tell me that fasting is not dieting, I already know this. :)

That's great, Uncle Bud!

I lost over 100 lbs a few years ago, after realizing how much my health was being affected, and I still struggle with wanting to eat for "comfort". If I would just learn to replace food with prayer, I'd be alright! ;)

Keep up the good habits!

WOW!

That is amazing!

While fasting is not dieting - the natural result of it is that you learn how to use food properly and that is awesome. Excellent job there UB.

(john rethinks the 2 eggs and ham he ate for breakfast.....)

Yeah I do give all the glory to God. This much weight in such a short time and my health according to my doctor is fantastic.

Congrats on losing 100 pounds by the way. I still want to eat because I still love the taste of certain foods, and although prayer has less caloric intake they don't taste as good as McDonalds ;)

Wonderful!

Fasting is not for dieting purposes but if I remember correctly, there is a prayer at the end of the lent season which talks about how you are now "smaller".

When I started observing the fasts, I almost instantly felt the benefits.

In Lent I was healthy 100% of the time.

Your diet affects your health and therefore your mind.

But let us not forget that we fast for prayer and preparation.

I knew that you weren't talking about dieting through fasting but I was just making myself explicit.
