The first thing you must do is determine what kind of player you need.If the file ends in .wmv, .mpg, .asx, or .avi then you should use the Windows Media Player code. If your file ends in .qt or .mov you should use Quick Time to play the file. If your file ends in .rpm,
.ram, or .rp you will need to use Real Play to play your video. Please note that these files MUST already be on the internet. You CANNOT host these files from your own computer.

Windows Media Player

<embed name="RAOCXplayer" src="URL Goes Here" type="application/x-mplayer2" width="320" height="302"
ShowStatusBar="1" AutoSize="true" DisplaySize="0"
pluginspage="http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/Downloads/Contents/
Products/MediaPlayer/"></embed>

Change all the areas in blue to suit your needs. You can remove the height and width attributes completely if you want to use the video's natural size. loop is the number of times you want the video to loop.

If you place TRUE there instead of a number it will continue to loop non-stop. You can change autostart to true if you want the video to automatically start playing when the video is loaded.

Quick Time

<embed src="sample.mov" width="320" height="256"></embed>

change everything in blue to suit your needs.

Flash

<embed src="somefilename.swf" width="550" height="400">
</embed>

change everything in blue to suit your needs.

Real Player

<embed src="3984-clip.rm" width="320" height="240"

loop="true" type='audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin' autostart="false"> </embed>

change everything in blue to suit your needs. IF autostart is set to true the video will automatically starts when your page loads. Otherwise the user will have to press play themselves to see the video.

When you go to "Edit Profile/Homepage", there is a section there for adding a movie file. Is that the same thing as a video? I added a link to a video, and a video box showed up (above the html section (where the blog and guestbook show up)), but nothing played. I have seen other people with videos there that played, but I don't know if there is a difference in the type of file it is, or if I am just a computer klutz.

hopefully someone who has gotten it to work in the profile section will reply here.

I have heard that many are having problems getting them to work.

The code I gave in this post goes in the edit myCF html section

YouTube is different from the rest of them. I see code that you can copy and paste into your page next to that video (on the right). Try that.

I found a cool video on youtube and I copied the url and put it in the movie url in the "edit homepage" or whatever it is.

The black video thing shows up but the video does not play and the page freezes.

Can someone help me? I've removed the video because it kept freezing. :doh:

I have seen other videos in the movie file, but I haven't gotten any to work there (I have tried a few). I finally ended up putting one in the html section and it works fine there.

Go back to the video you wanted and, instead of getting the URL, get the html code (where it says "embed") and just paste that in the html section of the homepage. If you want it centered, put centering tags around it, <center> </center>, or it sits on the left of the page.

you have to copy and paste the html code I posted in the OP... you need to put it the edit MyCF html Section... not the edit profile section. Then insert the URL of the video you want in the part in blue that says URL goes here.

Does that put it above the guestbook on the page?

Byootaful, that would put it down at the bottom of your homepage in the "html section", where mine is at if you want to see.

For me the videos work, but the sound files do not. I have a Mac with Safari. I have had sound files play on this browser before, so I don't know what the hang up is yet. :(

I like that, but I would rather mine go above the guest book. It goes there if I put the link in the 'video url' thing near the sound url thing, but it freezes. Maybe I am putting the wrong link in.

Same here, only I don't get a picture and it gives me a codec error. I can do the Quicktime embedding in the custom HTML section and it plays flawlessly. I'd like something that works AND displays at the top of the page, thank you.

This is my own opinion, I think you should have one or the other. I like the sound file because it automatically comes up. You have to wait for the movie file for a few seconds, by then your already half done looking at the page. But thats just me. I think your page is awesome. :D
