To add background music to your page, you will need to have the url to the music file (wma, asx, mp3.. etc.) from either another site, or from your own host.

this will create a music player with controls that a viewer can control:

<embed src="url_of_song" autostart="true" loop="true" width="280" height="45"></embed>

this will play the music in the background with no user controls:

<embed src="url_of_song" autostart="true" loop="true" width="0" height="0"></embed>

Step by step instructions:

Download a song
winmx.com
epitonic.com
google.com
Hosting a song
Search for a host (google.com - free webhost)
Make sure the host allow music download (.wma .mp3 .rm .ram .mov .wav etc.)
Make sure the host allow HOTLINKING (if not, you're out of luck)
Upload your music
Get the URL (http://the.host.site.and.your.username/music.file.mp3)
Putting the song up
Have to use the right code
Make sure the code has no mistake
Not working?
Check all the step above
STILL Not working?
You not getting it! Stop trying!:D

you have to copy and past the html code from the first post... then replace the part where it says url goes here with the actual url of the song.

Can I upload a song I recorded on iTunes from a CD? Or do I have to download it from a website and then upload it somewhere else?

as long as you have a website to upload the song to so it will have a URL... that's all that matters. If it's already on the web in full version... you may ask them if you can link it to their URL.

I'm pretty sure google doesn't offer file hosting. You will have to first look for a good host. Here is a link to one that looks promising: http://filelodge.bolt.com (http://filelodge.bolt.com/account.php?action=register).

Once you've found one, register on that site and upload your file, following their directions. Then copy the link they give you and paste it within the code ImHisServant posted.:)

If you haven't changed the default setting, iTunes imports your songs from CDs as a bunch of MP3 files (which is a good format to work with). Browse over to your file, right click on it, and select properties. If it says MPEG Layer 3 Audio, you are good to go. Assuming it does, you then have to find a host for the MP3 file and do the other steps in the first post to display it on your MyCF page.

Thank so much, i was wondering how to do that. I found a way to get a url easy though, without having to host it. Just go to www.dogpile.com (http://www.dogpile.com) and then go to audio. Then type in the song or the artist you are looking for. if you find what your looking for, click on it and the url for the song will show up.

How about right clicking on it and then going to properties... it should show you the URL and you can copy and paste it.

I love that song you chose!! My oldest daughter did a dance drama to that in church.

There is no way for the viewers of your page to stop it if they want to play the video though... at least I didn't see it.

I read your post earlier today. I went over to bravenet, opened an account, set up a web page, and found absolutely no way of uploading a song from my computer over to their server. I finally gave up. Apparently, it's way over my head.

What I need is a pop up box that lets me browse my computer, tell them where the file is and push ok.

i didn't think it was possible either at first, if you haven't gotten it yet let me see if i can help....

go to bravenet.com-log in at the top right hand corner(it should take you to a page called "Account Manager")-click on "manage hosting"-click on "upload tool"-after you upload the files you want find your way back to "account manager"-click on file manager-right click on the name of the file to copy the url

that's how i did it anyway:)

I didn't change any settings, but mine says it is an AAC audio file. Can I do something with that, or does it have to be re-uploaded to iTunes in a different format?

Hmmm, that's what I was afraid of. That format isn't overly compatible. There is a conversion tool on most of the newer versions of iTunes that might be able to convert it to mp3, but I've had problems with converting in the past, and it would also be a good thing to be able to adjust the file's bit-rate. So, I suggest that you import that song from the CD again.

Here is what you can do...

With the audio CD in your computer, open iTunes. When iTunes realizes the disk is there, select it from the menu on the left side.

Next, either hold "Crl" and, while doing so, tap "," once or go to "Edit" and then "Preferences" at the top of the window.

Now, you should see a tab that says "Advanced." Once you click it, you then will be able to click the "Importing" tab.

You will see the text "Import Using." Beside it, select "MP3 Encoder" from the little dropdown box.

You will also see a dropdown box beside the text "Setting." From the box select "Custom." A new window will appear. Select "48 kbps" from the "Stereo Bit Rate" dropdown box. (That will make that the song download about 2.5 times faster for people listening to it on your page! :)) Click "OK" for both windows.

Now deselect the boxes beside all of the songs you don't want to import, and then click the import icon at the top of the window.

Uploading

Sadly, there is still the matter of uploading it to the web. :( If you're looking for the quickest possible way of doing it, I found the perfect place: http://s16.quicksharing.com/

You can upload your file using that service in just a few seconds since you don't register. Just click browse a the top of the screen, find your file, and then click upload and it'll gives you the URL. The potential problems with using "QuickSharing.Com" are that you probably couldn't delete the file in the future and if you forget the URL to the file, it would probably just be lost and you'd have to upload again. Overall it looks pretty good though. :)

No, the code is for the html section. To use "sound file" in your Control Panel, just enter the URL (the address) to your sound file. :)

If you take that URL and type it into a separate browser window, does the song play that way? If not, the URL is bad.
