View Full Version : New Feature: Embedded CF Sound File and Movie File in MyCF Homepage!

You can now link to your favorite sound file and movie file and put them in your MyCF Homepage!

Best example is to take a look at mine:
http://erwin.christianforums.com

You basically need to know the URL of the sound file and/or movie file, and enter them into your UserCP, Profile section. As long as the URL is correct, and your browser has Media Player plugin, they should show up in your MyCF Homepage.

NOTE: You need to have a post count of at least 100 (OR else be a Site Supporter), for your CF Movie File to show up in your MyCF Homepage. :)

Enjoy! :)

What formats are accepted? I had a little .avi file, but when I uploaded it to photobucket it changed it to an .flv. I guess .flv doesn't work here.

Anyone have suggestions for other free webhosting that allows direct linking of video clips? I'd rather not put something like that on my webspace if I can avoid it. It looks like it would seriously eat up bandwidth.

Anything that is playable on Windows Media Player.

/me puts in the obligatory "How do we turn this off?" request.

This feature keeps freezing my browser because I'm on such a slow connection, so I'm really eager to have the option to turn off sound & movies. Thanks!

I have window media which is .wav but altho the player shows up it won't play with just the location of the song.

Are you saying there is no way to just browse my pc and upload on here like we do the pictures?
Do you mean I have to make a website somewhere to get a URL for it?

I've done that before and most songs are usually too large to upload :(

How are people having music automatically play when you open the home page. I put in a sound file and the only way to hear it is to click on the little speaker. I want it to automatically play when someone opens the homepage, could someone help me?

Erwin,
I have a question.
Rather than using an external url, Can we link it to something from our hard drive ??
Is it possible to upload that way ??
I've a bunch of Christian music and one particular song I want to use.

No ones' movie files work for me, even in IE. :sorry:I think the persons homepage should come with a warning. I clicked on someones who had a movie file, and it cramped up my computer. I couldn't even click out of it. I had to shut my whole system down and reboot. What a pain!

Not everyone can afford to upgrade. I know I sure can't. These new things...yeah, they're great and all...but for those of us who can't keep ahead of the new technology...

Poor you. That's awful. I know exactly how you feel. For 10 years, my computers were always someone else's hand me downs. So many times my machine would just freeze because the newest greatest thing would be too overwhelming for my machine. Right now I'm okay because I have a fast machine for the first time. It won't be long though before it's a dinosaur because we can't afford upgrades either.

does this work for a sound file as well? I used this in my HTML section, but all I am getting is the music. Hmm, maybe someone else will be able to see it. I dunno. Thanks though. It helped me out a LOT!!

I put a video in my html section (and it works), but I can't get one to play in the movie file section. Is a video the same as a movie file?

(and yes, I realize this is a very stupid question.)

Would this be possible as a quick interim solution, Erwin? I know that in my case it's just that I'm too cheap to upgrade to a faster connection, but still, this is a problem for many of us.

I'm trying to avoid My CF Homepages as much as possible, but sometimes it's just not feasible.

Thanks!

Lel, I do have high speed internet and a computer with a dual hard drive that is less than 6 months old and these songs and videos freeze it up for me too. I would also like to be able to turn it off from automatically playing.

My new rule:

If I open a profile and sounds start playing, that profile gets rated a "1" by me. No exceptions.

And I have to open a lot of profiles.

BigToe

Cadan, I like that new rule. I think I'll implement the same thing.

To answer the question: There are only some types of files that work in the movie section. Not all of them do.

Okay, I went grave digging to try and find this answer.

How do I get a sound file to play on my home page from you tube? I tried the solution mentioned in this thread, but it didn't work for me. What to do? Please help. Thanks.

Meek One, you know that they are planning on upgrading to a new board soon, right? (Not sure how soon, but they said "soon".) Maybe you should wait till after the upgrade and see if things will be easier then.

I couldn't figure it out, either, even after reading all the directions. :sigh: I had to scrap that idea.

I just want to be able to pull up my homepage and hear the song I like a lot and share it with others too.

I'll wait, but if anyone else knows of an answer to this, it would be greatly appreciated....I'll even throw in some blessings as bribery...hehehee! :D

If you have the song on a CD, you can upload the song to a site that takes audio uploads and then put a link in the html section. That is what I did with mine.
