It's bad news this week for those who were hoping some divine intervention would help humanity overcome its power-thirsty animal attackers.
A man in Ukraine set out to prove that the Lord would protect him when he clambered into the lion enclosure at a Kiev zoo Sunday, The St Petersburg Times reports.
An official at the zoo said: "The man shouted 'God will save me, if he exists', lowered himself by a rope into the enclosure, took his shoes off and went up to the lions."
The man got his answer when an affronted lioness grabbed him by the throat and killed him in front of horrified visitors. The official helpfully explained: "A lioness went straight for him, knocked him down and severed his carotid artery."

I guess the difference between this guy and the prophet Daniel, is that this guy was trying to test God by putting himself in the lions den (he said God will save him, "if he exists"), and Daniel was put there by others because of his faith, and for the strength of that very same faith, God decided to save him from the lions for HIS purposes.

Reminds me of the story of the man wanting God to directly save him from drowning in a flood.
This is why I cannot stand pop theology that is especially popular in Protestantism. God doesn't impeed like this very often...He does as He does when He wants to. If someone wants to jump in a den of lions and expect God to save us, then such a person needs to be admitted.

please don't refer to Protestantism in such sweeping terms. the majority of people who call themselves "Protestants" are Lutherans, Anglicans, and Presbyterians/Reformed, who generally speaking have nothing to do with "pop theology."

I said it is especially popular in Protestantism.
I didn't say Protestantism advocates it.
There's a big difference between the two. You've falsely equivocated the two.

I immediately thought of this when I heard about this man: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'

Testing Christ was one reason the generation that left Egypt did not make it over the Jordan (with the exception of Joshua and Caleb, of course).
This story has the same moral- it's just like cheating on your taxes and asking the Lord to bless you financially. The guy in this story broke the law and invoked a challenge to God. He should have repented of his sins and obeyed the civil law instead. He'd be alive today if he simply followed those easy steps to life.

Reminds me of the story of the man wanting God to directly save him from drowning in a flood.
Similarily, it reminded me of a joke invoving a rabbi, priest and pastor(pick your denomination) all praying to be saved from a flood but expecting different answers.
