The techs and I have no idea why - I was sleeping in today - it's a public holiday here in Australia (Queen's Birthday) so I had no idea the site was down.

We are using the latest versions of all software so there is a suspicion that it's software, possible OS, related. The techs are investigating.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

No problem Erwin. I'm just glad the site is back up. Thanks for doing such a wonderful job at maintaining this site!

I will be swapping one of our main web servers with 4 new dual Opteron web servers to increase redundancy and scalability of CF. This will occur in the next couple of weeks I anticipate, and should address downtime/speed issues (I pray!)

Hey that'd be cool but I honestly have not experienced any speed issues recently. I understand that some people have though and hopefully this will benefit them.

There should be no downtime as we will be adding new servers directly onto the network, before removing the old server.

so this would mean that if one server crashed, the other 3 would continue to function?

awesome, nice one erwin... :D

Yes. Well, we used to have this, but we went to a main quad opteron with separate minor servers for images, attachments, DNS, mail etc. - this is mainly for php caching purposes - having 1 main web server is easier to code for when it comes to using APC to cache datastore for the forum software - but best to also diversify the main web server to many like we had before - we'll just have to do a workaround like we did before - annoying but can be done.

I'm starting to get a complex! The last three unexpected, unexplained down-times have all gone like this:

I log into CF.
I go to my UserCP.
I see new posts in my subscribed threads.
I click each thread to open in successive tabs in my browser.
...
...
...
Still waiting...
...
...
...
Each new tab results in a time-out / page load error.
I try to refresh my UserCP and get the same time-out / page load error.
A few hours later, CF is back up and a thread like this appears.

I'm starting to think I'm causing the crashes! :D
