The Reverend Father Matta El Maskeen has departed this world.
You can find basic information and links about this late, blessed monk at his Wikipedia biographical entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abouna_Matta_El_Meskeen) and the official website of Saint Macarius Coptic Orthodox Monastery (http://www.stmacariusmonastery.org/efr_mata_articles.htm).
We extend our deepest condolences to the monks of Saint Macarius and all of Fr. Matta's spiritual sons and daughters throughout the world. His erudition and Orthodoxy will be sorely missed.
Fr. Matta's recorded sermons and extensive writings will always remain with us, however.
You can read many of Fr. Matta's articles on coptichymns.net, (http://www.coptichymns.net/index.php?module=pagesetter&tid=1&filter=core.author:eq:Father%20Matta%20El%20Maskeen%20(Matthew%20the%20Poor)&pubcnt=100)
The Lord repose his soul in the paradise of joy.
He is also the author of numerous books, two of which translated in English and published by SVS Press (http://www.svspress.com/advanced_search_result.php?search_in_description=1&keywords=matthew+the+poor&osCsid=553d2c937b6e990732660f5f4780f358&x=0&y=0).
May he pray for us among the angels and Holy Fathers.
Memory Eternal!

MY DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS,
It is with mixed emotions that i hear of the death of Orthodoxy's great teacher Father Matta El-Meskeen. i am, of course sad for us here on earth who are deprived of the physical presence of a great Spiritual Father. However, there is also a sense of gladness that his teachings and influence will live on and perhaps even spread further than they have during his life and that he presently sees the face of God and will spend eternity interceeding on our behalf.
Father Matta, through his writings, has done--and will continue to do--much to bring me--and i am sure countless others--closer to God as well as helping me understand--and live--the True Orthodox Faith more deeply and more fully. May he be forever blessed--MEMORY ETERNAL!!!!
FATHER MATTA--PRAY TO GOD FOR US!

Thank you, Mina and others, for having posted about Father Matta-el-Meskine. I had heard about him vaguely, but now this assembled material will give me a chance to get to know him.
Indeed he seems to have been a great and holy man. You are lucky to have people like him. Now get all his writings tranlated and give us all, worldwide, a chance to hear his words!

Father Matta-el-Meskine ["Matthew the Poor"] was a true Prophet and Apostle.
As Evangelicals,we recognise his books in an 'inspired' teaching capacity and have been strengthened by them:
'Orthodox Prayer Life - The Interior Way'
'The Communion of Love'.
Acts 7:55,56 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56"Look," he said, "I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God."
Acts 8:2 Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him.
When a living stone is cast into the pool of this world's tears, the ripples it creates flow ever onwards, ever outwards and touch the shores of Eternity.
Mark.

Fr. Matta el Meskin's books really helped me.
I learnt to pray with one of his book
I learnt what baptism is by one of his book
I'm very sad.:(
But for sure now he is not sad, bc he is looking at Christ face to face.
Réquiem ætérnam dona eo Dómine,
et lux perpétua lúceat eo.
Requiéscat in pace.
Amen.
