When I "Equipped" my new rose colored glassess, they wouldn't show up on my CF character, but they are listed under Equiped Special Items.

You need to make sure you equip them either first or second in your Special Items list, as the third item you equip defaults to the background. Try unequipping all your Special Items, the re-equip them with the sunglasses either first or second. :)
