View Full Version : My CF Homepage - @ yourusername.christianforums.com !
Erwin
7th June 2006, 09:30 AM
Finally, I've spent the whole day coding and come up with the updated MyCF Homepage.
Check mine out at:
http://erwin.christianforums.com
It's basically merge of your CF profile and your CF custom homepage.
From now on, the HTML coding part of the CF custom homepage will NOT cost any blessings! EVERY member can go ahead and customise the HTML part of their MyCF Homepage!
The MyCF Homepage is a place where you can look up a person's CF stats, biography info, CF friends, CF Armor and Items, Latest Blog Entry, Latest Gallery Photo, and lots more.
EDIT: Also added the last 5 guestbook entries in there. :)
I intend to keep upgrading this. :)
Let me know how it goes.
This is a FREE service for ALL members. :) Enjoy! Go forth and customise your MyCF Homepage now!!! :D
EDIT: Good example of one:
http://mnphysicist.christianforums.com/ (http://mnphysicist.christianforums.com/)
EDIT: You can now RATE each other's MyCF Homepage!!! :)
NEW UPDATE:
I made it easy to customize your MyCF page in your UserCP, Profile section.
You just go there and enter the appropriate background color, link to image, font type, colors, and your MyCF page will automatically be customized! :)
Check mine out as an example:
http://erwin.christianforums.com
Try it out now! :)

Cool,but you also need to edit your homepage,Erwin.
It still says that it costs blessings to get started and upkeep.
;)
It also says this when we go to make or edit the page.
Tip: To save blessings, preview your homepage first as many times as you like until you are happy with it before saving!

Thank you again, you are the greatest, while I have not got around to using mine yet, I think it is a good thing for all members to be able to use.
We do have some menbers that can't participate in all things because of finances (Oh, but for the grace of God, goeth I) and they do bring such joy and love to the forum. Thank you once again for the great things you have done and are doing.

People with spaces, symbols and special characters in their username will have trouble using the subdomain link to their MyCF homepage - this is why we no longer allow this for new registrations for the past 6 months. :)
If you want to change your username to use this system, please PM AngelAmidala and she can fix this for you.

Erwin, what would be really cool is if all of the tables displayed could be in a separate <div>'s using absolute positioning, with unique "id" attributes. This way, we could re-arrange the entire layout of the page with CSS.
Whadda you think?

Very cool idea indeed... but newbies may end up having tables everywhere on the screen - the problem with absolute positioning is that it doesn't take into account the monitor size, size of the content of the table - there is bound to be overlap etc.

Yes, I agree a little CSS could be a lot dangerous.
But you could still consider the separate <div>'s, just position them in-line, then us CSS experts [cough...] could choose to change the positioning if we want to.
If a newbie messes up their page too much, they could delete any CSS they added, essentially resetting their homepage.

Your homepage looked okay in my browser which is Firefox, but in my homepage the health bar juts far into the space where my profile photo would go if I had one. Also the armor lists are squished in Firefox (but not in IE as you know).
PS I don't know how to do a screen shot, but I can learn.

NEW:
There is a new Profile field - MyCF CSS - go to your UserCP Profile to customise this.
Use CSS to customize the look of your MyCF Homepage - you can change the color of links, add a background image - anything you like!
Examples of CSS tags to use (you can cut and paste and change the HEX values:
body {background: #FFF000}
page {background: #FFF000}
a:link {background: #FFF000}
a:hover, a:active {background: #FFF000}
a:visited {background: #FFF000}
.tcat {background: #FFF000}
.theader {background: #FFF000}
.tborder {background: #FFF000}
If you want to use a image background instead, replace the body line with this (you can use an image that you've attached to a thread):
Body{background-image:url(type the image url here)}
Leave it blank for default. :)

I think I have to think about this more. If the tables in the middle of the page are positioned 'absolute', the normal space they occupy would collapse, and the footer would float up.
A quick fix to this might be to place everything between the header and footer in one big <div style="position:relative">, but I'd need to test that.

How should I code the <div tags? Any recommendations?
After thinking about this I went and build a test page to make sure this would work. If you are still considering making the page more positionable, here are my recommendations.
Each table below the header should be wrapped in a new <div>, with a unique "id=" attribute. The 'id' naming convention is not important, as long as each one is unique. We can peek at the code to get these id's.
The table on the right of the page, (containing: CF avatar, Latest 5 CF Guestbook, and CF BIo) would have to be recoded into three distinct tables (nested OK). Right now they are a single table.
The entire page from the end of the header down to the bottom, including the footer, should be wrapped in a separate <div style="position:relative;">. This will ensure that the new CSS will not interfere with the header on top of the page. Position 0,0 would actually start after the header.
The footer will need it's own separate <div> with unique 'id'. This will allow the user to reposition the footer back to the end of the page. Without it, the footer would float up as the other <div>'s are repositioned.
These changes would make all of the contents re-positionable.
The user could also choose to prevent one or more of the <div>'s from displaying by setting it to display:none. Then the user would have complete control over what displays and what doesn't.
Erwin, just want to say thanks, I know the level of time and dedication you must invest into CF!

Okay, this may seem like a silly request, but in the profile you can put in backgrounds and colors, etc. There is no way to check the page from there to see if the colors are working well with the page. It takes many links later to check to see if your page looks okay. Maybe I'm just the impatient type. :)
