Can we get a show of hands of whose churches had a sermon yesterday on the Da Vinci Code?

Not mine. I preached on the cost of losing our separation out of 1 Kings 13.
I hear a lot about this DaVinci code stuff, but it hasn't affected our assembly much. I can't think of anyone in our congregation that even goes to the movie theater.

The funny thing is the DVC got bad reviews at Cannes, and by other critics. I was speaking with a co-worker this morning, and they agreed that if the church hadn't gone whacky over this, the movie probably wouldn't have made half what it did, and would have been forgotten before too long.

Our pastor preached against this heretical gnostic film in the evening service.

Our church had a seminar on the Da Vinci Code. But there wasn't any sermon on it. I saw the movie. It's both entertaining and heretical, but it isn't worth a 45 minute sermon.

Our pastor didn't preach against it, per se. What he did was present ten points from the book that were false (that's all he had time for), and then countered each from scripture and from historical context so that we would be more knowledgeable when we spoke to those who had questions.

Our pastor also gave the points where both the movie and the book teach false, misleading, and dangerous information.
As he pointed out, we Christians need to be aware and informed so we will know how to answer those who may be deceived by such heresy.

I am not the least bit concerned with the Da Vinci Code. The only thing all the hype and hoopla has done is to put nonsense in the forefront of peoples minds. If folks are decieved by it they get exactly what they want. I will concern myself with the preaching of the Gospel in the power of the Spirit and pray that He will make it effectual to the hearts of sinners. The only answer to heresy is simple preaching of the Gospel, Jesus Christ and him crucified. When this one dies down another will take its place as people are always seeking some new controversy to excite them.

No, this past Sunday was Baptism Sunday, which marks the time when our pastor begins baptizing in the river once more.

Ironically the same charge could be leveled at the Left Behind film...............

Actually the films protrayal of Gnosticism is not accurate (surprise), they didn't teach the total humaness of Jesus at the expense of His divinity, they taught that Jesus was totally spirit, being human is evil, anything material or physical is evil and bad. Just another example of how the movie/book don't have their scholarship correct. So the film really isn't Gnostic.

Yeah but the film preaches against Christianity
And seems Gnostic from the way that
People are portraying it to be!!

I note on a recent News Cast that some schools have put The Code in school libraries, even though in most of the same schools you can not put a Bible because that might hurt someone's feelings. Odd isn't it, that our school boards can allow false doctrine into the reading material of our schools while shunning the true doctrine.

Had ours a few weeks ago, as one of the members of our congregation is featured frequently on Dateline (Passion of the Christ, now for Da Vinci Code) so we have an in-house expert on the topic.

Seems as though the schools sadly don't want to have anything to do with Christianity
Even hearing the word God makes them cringe
Sad but true though.
