We go to midnight service on christmas eve, then go to church on christmas morning, followed by a lovely large christmas lunch with family. Although this year it will be rather quiet as the children are with their father over christmas so it will only be the two of us this year. still at least it means I can have a nap in the armchair after lunch if I want to. :)

I spend Christmas with family. I am interested in people's thoughts on
whether Santa Claus would be considered the worship of a false god, since children are basically taught to pray to him for gifts. What do you think? Keep in mind that Santa gets way more attention on a day that has
been designated as Christ's birthday.

My family and i don't usualyl make a big deal out of christmas. Big deal as in we don't go nuts with roast turkey, tons of presents, heaps of food, lots of partying etc. Plus for some reason it's a time that i feel like just going outside. I mean, it is Jesus' birthday after all. I don't feel right celebrating it by presents or christmas trees or etc.
We've got tons of time to go out and do some awesome stuff for people less fortunate. Now if only i can convince my family to :). Might as well since we can't seem to decide who will put up the christmas tree this year :D. (boy it takes ages to do that :))

i do my own thing. my parents aren't believers, so i sneak out of the house and go to church. but because you dont have to work, they expect that i am around the house that day (no visiting friends cuz they are visiting family)..... so i get to do nothing and watch its a wonderful life on tv, even though it is about christians.

Normally I go the the midnite mass, it's difficult to get a seat though since that is one of the two nites a year that the mediocres decide to darken the pews.

I don;t celebrate Christmas.
Many years ago, I began simply staying alone on Christmas so's I could spend time thinking of the birthday boy.
I didn't think it right to swap presents with other folks, have parties or get-togethers and not even think of the reason for the day's celebration.
I hated that awful stuff.
Now, I'm happily spending the day with the Holy Father - and no one else.
Every day is Father's Day - Holy Father's Day - to me.

We haven't always gone to church on Christmas Eve--sometimes it has seemed "too busy" to do that. But this year after attending a Christmas Eve service at our church, I decided that in the future I will not allow the busy-ness of Christmas to interfere with making it a regular tradition.
We are regular church attenders--probably don't miss 3 Sundays a year. And I love going to church. But the Christmas Eve service this year was the most enjoyable service I have experienced in a long, long time. It was so beautiful and family-oriented. And short. It was only an hour long and you didn't have to look at your watch once before it was over.

At Christmas last year, I went to church on Christmas Eve for the first time.
It was so beautiful. We turned the lights out and everyone held lit candles all around the church. It was so wonderful I almost cried.
Then Christmas day we open presents at home then go to my aunts house for dinner and more presents later on. :)

When I was growing up Christmas was....well the waiting room for Hell. Everyone was so angry and disgusted with everything ABOUT Christmas that we mostly stayed in our rooms until time to open presents and we'd just stay long enough to get it over with.
Then I got married to the best wife in the world! :) We now start celebrating Christmas 4 Sundays before, with an Advent Services small meetings with a few brothers and sisters like a half an hour. We light a candle, sing a few songs, say a few prayers worshiping the Lord. Simple. It makes all the difference in the world.
I love that time of year!

Grandpa passed away two years ago and I miss him very much around the
Christmas season.
I thought of him the other day, as I sat down to enjoy a cup of
coffee after decorating for Christmas around our house.
I recalled a Christmas Eve from a few years back when we were all at
Grandpa's house.
The family was all sitting around the huge dining room table,
talking, waiting to head out to the midnight service at church.
Then someone noticed one of the lights out on Grandpa's Christmas
tree.
My oldest son, Bubba, (who fancies himself as somewhat of a
specialist when it comes to Christmas lights), jumped up from the
table exclaiming, "Don't worry, Grandpa, I'll take care of that light
for you".
Grandpa quickly replied "No, leave it alone, the lights are fine just
the way they are".
"But, Grandpa, the tree doesn't look right with that light out, it's
probably just a bad bulb, I could easily replace it for you." Bubba
said.
Grandpa told Bubba that there was a reason behind that light being
out.
By this time Grandpa had the whole family curious . . .
Everyone wanted to know what Grandpa's reason was for that one light
bulb being out.
"But Grandpa, why would you leave one light out on the Christmas
tree?" Bubba asked.
"Think about it for a little while, if you don't have it figured out
by dinnertime tomorrow then I'll tell you." Grandpa said.
Having said that, Grandpa got up from the table and said, "It's time
to leave, I want to get to church early before all the seats are
taken."
Grandpa went to the other room, put on his hat and overcoat, and
yelled out "Let's go!"
We all went to church, sat through a lovely Christmas service and
then headed on back to our own homes.
The next day, everyone showed up at Grandpa's for Christmas dinner.
Grandpa's little puzzle had everyone talking, trying to figure out
what lesson Grandpa was trying to pass on this time.
Meanwhile, Grandpa sat back in his chair smiling as everyone tried to
figure out why that one light was out on Grandpa's Christmas tree.
Dinner was served and Bubba asked Grandpa about the light bulb once
again.
Grandpa said "Hasn't anyone figured out the significance of that
light being out on the tree yet?"
As he looked around the table all he was met with was blank stares
from everyone seated at the table.
Finally, Bubba said, "Grandpa, we have all tried desperately to
figure out it's significance, but none of us has been able to come up
with an answer, won't you please tell us?"
Grandpa said, " The brightly lit lights on the tree are a reminder to
us that Jesus was the Light of the World. He told us that we should
carry that light within us, and share that light with others."
"We understand all of that Grandpa, but that still doesn't explain to
us the significance of the one light bulb that isn't lit." replied
Bubba.
"Ah, the bulb that isn't lit, it is there to remind us of all those
who still walk in darkness, those who have not yet come to know the
light. It is a reminder to us that we are to share the light with
those who don't have it." Grandpa said.
Ever since that Christmas, Bubba has made it a point to make sure
there is one bulb on our tree that isn't lit.
Just a thought over coffee!

I go to church for the 4:30 family service and the midnight mass at 11pm on Christmas eve and then I go to the 10:30am service on Christmas day. It is then ususally followed by going to grandparents house and chilling out there, eating food and playing with my cousin's new toys and what not. Then boxing day we go to my nans house and her house is an open house so everyone is there. Reminds me last year I helped my cousin feed the horses and muck out. Oh the memories.

Our church usually has the Christmas service on the Sunday before Christmas, if it doesn't fall on a Sunday that year. Christmas Eve-Eve (stay with me here ;)) my family has a Christmas party for the mentally disabled people we work with, it's really a good time. Christmas Eve we go to a dinner theater here to see "A Christmas Carol". Christmas morning we all meet at my parents' house and eat brunch, then read the Christmas story and pray before we open presents. It's so cool, cause I used to read Luke 2 for the family, but since my niece started reading, I've turned it over to her. After that we do something outdoorsy, like go to a park, or if it's warm enough we swim (the pool's heated anyways!). Then nap time. Then we congregate again for dinner. After dinner my friends and I meet up at one of their houses and we exchange gifts and hang out.

My church, too, has Christmas Service the Sunday before Christmas, unless Christmas falls on a Sunday or Wednesday. We do have a Christmas Eve service however that is also the day my husband's family gets together. Someday I would like to go to that service.

At church it is neither at christmas eve nor christmas day so i vote family and friends...I'll agree. Christmas isn't even in the Bible. It was a holiday invented by the Catholic church to give first century Christians to be a part of the celebration that the pagans were doing for the Winter Solstice, but from a religious point of view.

I don't celebrate christmas at all.
I do include recognition of the birth of my Messiah at the approximately the time He would have been born - in the fall around the Festival of Booths or Tabernacles.
We celebrate Sukkot as outlined in scripture (but without going to the Temple - wishing...) and do include recognition of Messiah's birth in our observances.

My church usually has a midnite Christmas eve service which I love going to. I think it is great!!! It is great to remember Christ and what he did for us not just at easter but all year round!! To thank him for family and friends and for the fact that we are able to share dinner around a table and that we are blessed with so many things that many people around the world are not!!! I love Christmas time, pity that it is so materialistic!!

we dont celebrate 'christmas', the holiday means nothing to us. it is a joke about commercialism, capitalism and religious garble. 'christmas' is neither historically nor theologically accurate. the only authentic christmas experience is the existential one. just as God became real to people through Jesus so long ago, so also may God become real to you through Jesus every day, including december 25th.

Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year!! And this will be my first Christmas in TWO YEARS so I am VERY excited about it!!!! I usually go to church on Christmas Eve with my grandparents. The we get some visiters after I get back home. After that we'll just kind of relax and watch Christmas movies for a couple more hours until we go to sleep. We always wake up very early in the morning and open our presents and the eat breakfast. After that, we get ready and go up to my grandparents' house to watch them open presents. We'll have a big turkey dinner with my brothers and their families and then we'll spend the rest of the day either visiting or receiving visitors. Christmas is such a spiritual time of year for me. I love it!!!

I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses so we don't celebrate it, and evn though I am leaving the Witnesses because I have found erros I still think I wont celebrate christmas as it isn't the birth of Jesus and stems from pagen worship.
It all seems kind of mixed up, with drink (bad) parties (bad) family reunions (good) thinking of Jesus (good) trees (bad) ornaments and decorating lights outside (bad) time for people to think about GOD (good) gift giving (good in proportion) gift giving whilst on a budget (bad when pressure is on to buy what they want) yule log (pagen background) public holiday (good, we all need a break)

Well, first I feel that good feeling that you get on Christmas. Knowing that our Savior was born to rescue us from our sinful selves. Everyone is nicer to each other, everywhere it seems. This is of course AFTER the holiday shopping crunch. People are nice at work, it seems even people are nicer on the road. I think that is because deep down inside they know what Jesus is all about, and He calms us inside, just as He calmed the storm that day. Anyway, we celebrate by remembering our Savior first and foremost, however we do have a tree, decorations, presents, the dinner, visiting and all that. Thanks for the warm feeling early in October....before all the demons come out for candy....hehehe :yum:

What? Its December already? LOL Excuse me, but I just couldn't pass that up. Its how I feel every December.
My family and I celebrate Christmas in alot of ways. We go to Christmas Eve services, then we come home and have homemade hot chocolate and sit around talking about Christmas' past. We talk about the real reason for Christmas, Christ birth and we allow the children to open one present.
Christmas Day we get up early (naturally, the kids never really sleep), we open presents, eat a special Christmas breakfast, go to Sunday School and Worship service. Then we retreat back home for a holiday feast. Since we have no evening service on Christmas the rest of the day is spent visiting friends and relatives.

Two years ago our son was still in the hospital so there wasn't really any celebration. Last year we went to my parents' house, don't know about this year. Whatever we want, I guess!

It's that time of the year again, and seeing that we're all from different places and backgrounds, tell us how YOU celebrate Christmas?
I wanted to vote for the top two, but couldn't.
I go to Church on Christmas morning. I also have a big family lunch/dinner at home, which is lovely. We play christmas carols and ring everyone in England (our relatives, not literally everyone :P ) to say Merry Christmas.
YAY! Christmas soon! :clap::clap::clap:

Maybe go to Church. Last year I cruised the coast on my motorcycle. Seems to mostly be solo for Christmas though. My family does not celebrate Christmas or for those that do... well it's at a bar or strip club so I don't mind being mostly alone for Christmas.

At my house, I'm known as the Christmas Nazi. I ususally start planning decorations and activities in Novemeber and the tree goes up right after Thanksgiving. I tend to drive my family crazy, but at least, we have the "Perfect Christmas".

I spend Christmas day with family (not all memebers of the family are Christians) so I go to church for the Christmas eve service. I make sure everyone knows the true meaning of christmas though on the day by praising Jesus all day long.

If by some miracle I happen to not be working and I am with my family, its usually very quiet.
Why do you ask? because my parents decided to have my brother and I during the Christmas holidays so my father, who was a teacher, would be home to help mum. I tell my mother that the Christmas holidays go for 6 weeks, but she decided to have us both at Christmas time. My brother was born on December 23 and 2 years later I was born on December 24. Now my husband's birthday is December 20th (cannot blame my parents for that one). So after 3 birthday parties in 5 days - we are too stuffed to do anything for Christmas.
But, if I happen to be working, I usually deliver the first Christmas baby (7 so far) I also delivered the first baby of the new Millenium for my hospital (12:56AM).
However, the Church service after Christmas is always special, and in the weeks leading up to Christmas in Melbourne (Vic, Australia) the Church puts on "The road to Bethlehem" it is amazing, if anyone is in Melbourne at the beginning of December you really should go. Its free but you need to register.

I go to the Christmas service at church. We used to spend Christmas Eve with my mom's family and Christmas Day with my dad's family, but now we live out of town. It's a little more difficult to get there on time after church, but we still get there for Christmas.

The poll should have been multiple choice.
I go to Mass (a Catholic Church service) on Christmas Eve or Christmas (this is actually a Holy Day of Obligation). I also will have Christmas dinner with my family and we will also open up presents and receive Christmas money. :)

Funny, the last time I went to church was Christmas Eve 2005, in which my parents forced me too. >_>
We celebrate it by giving gifts, though. The traditional Christmas of these days.

Christmas I would love to attend church and then have family time with my loved ones .. But useally we do just family time on Christmas Eve and Day.. Depends who's hosting it at who's house. Last year I hosted part of the Christmas and the rest we were at my husbands aunt/uncles place.. It was alot of fun and just relaxation time..

We wake up, the first thing I do is pray and say happy birthday to Jesus and thank Him.
Everyone goes to the tree, opens the presents, then we eat a dinner.
But usually around Christmas time, there's a little fighting between my mom and dad over who's gonna have us for Christmas. So Christmas isn't always enjoyable to me.

We are involved in several ministries that get busier at Christmas time, caroling, baskets, extra worship services. The choir sings at several services including Christmas eve.
We gather with friends on Christmas eve and New Years but on Christmas Day it is usually just my husband kids and I. We sit on the floor around the tree and eat cookies and open presents and hang out in our jammies and play with toys all day.

I can't honestly say I celebrate Christmas. That holiday always makes me feel very sad and lonely because of how things were done when I was growing up with my parents. So, I've never celebrated Christmas...I recognize it but I have never been able to celebrate it.

If I had a choice, I'd go to church Christmas Eve and then Christmas day if my DH (Husband) had to work then we'd go to his mom's or some place that family is hosting Christmas.. Normally have a good time and relax.. I prefer to be home on Christmas but being with family is nice to, so its hard to decide..
