Hey guys n gals, I need some help.

I'm preparing a short sermonette for prison outreach tomorrow night, and I need some descriptions of heaven. I'm at work right now, and I forgot my bible in the car this morning, so I'm coming to the next most authoritative source- you :) .

My basic outline/thoughts are running like this: I think one reason why people have a hard time getting excited about heaven is because we keep telling them how bad hell is. So let's talk about how good it is in the kingdom.

No more pain. No more hurt. No more illness. No more sadness. Our bodies are made perfect. And best of all, we'll be in the presence of the Lord!

Don't get me wrong, hell is a very real place, but if you trust in Jesus, you don't have to worry about going there.

So, if anyone could supply some more adjectives about heaven, it would be greatly appreciated.

:hug: to you all!

My favorite heaven passage

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
Rev 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Heaven is where Jesus is.
Jn 14:3; And if I go and make ready a place for you, I will come again and take you to be with me, so that where I am you may be too.
17:24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so that they can see my glory that you gave me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
Philippians 1:23 because I have a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far
Luke 12:37 Blessed are those slaves whom their master finds alert when he returns! I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, have them take their place at the table, and will come and wait on them!

Here's one of my favorite passages on what heaven will be like:
And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last. (St. Luke 13:30)

You got me thinking about that too
Really made me looking forward to going to heaven!

Thanks for all the help.

Menno, we did a few Sundays on Rev. 21, and that's what got me thinking on this line of thought. Everyone thinks Revelation is doom and gloom, but there's really so much hope there.

Really? Revelation usually reminds me about the Old Testament prophets rather than "doom and gloom." Oh well.

I absolutely agree with you about there being so much hope in Revelation. It gets me excited about heaven. :)

I like all of the "he who overcomes parts" like:

Rev. 3:5
5He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels.

Rev. 3:12
12Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name.

Rev. 3:21

21To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.

and other Revelation stuff

Rev. 7:15-17
15Therefore,
"they are before the throne of God
and serve him day and night in his temple;
and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.
16Never again will they hunger;
never again will they thirst.
The sun will not beat upon them,
nor any scorching heat.
17For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd;
he will lead them to springs of living water.
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
