OK...Baptists and Anabaptist groups, last I checked, have VERY different beliefs! I could be wrong, or getting my info from wrong sources. But if this is true, why are you all in the same congregational forum? Just curious.

I think it was just alphabetical order, J/K,
we do share beliefs on Baptism, agree on some other points, and share a small bit of history, probably the greatest similarity we share is a wide diversity within our own groups.

I know some Anabaptists have moved to the Restoration Movement forum, but I'm glad a few are still hanging with us, it makes for good balance.

We decided to just get along. Besides, we have more in common than we have differences. Although it doesn't always work, it works well enough most of the time.

Just don't bring up the peace witness. Gets the patriotic Baptists all upset.;)

Many also hang out at a forum just for anabaptists on another website.

so far i like it here, and i kinda like the fact it is all lumped together since i am southern baptist, but believe in the headcovering, modest clothing, etc. happily, my pastor loves mennonite culture and beliefs and incorporates some of them into our church.

Could you PM me a link? My beliefs are closest to "Anabaptist" (but I don't seem to fit 100% with any particular Anabaptist denomination... If you squished them all together you'd probably come close. )

I know that I am definitely NOT Baptist, but I've been hanging out here a lot because this is supposed to be where the Anabaptists go. ;)

Very astute. Indeed we do have very different beliefs, so you are right to wonder why Baptists and Anabaptists share a board.

It turns out that even Baptists of different denominations (there's no single Baptist denomination) have widely differing beliefs. For example, the theologies of American Baptists and Southern Baptists have almost no resemblance. And then there are our fellow Baptists in Africa, India, and Europe, whose beliefs I'm not familiar with at all. So really, it doesn't make sense to have a single Baptist forum in the first place. If CF had had an evangelical Christianity forum when I first joined, I probably would have gone there instead. But by now, I've made so many friends here that I stay simply for the company of these brothers and sisters.

Anyway, my guess is that when Erwin was deciding which congregational forums to create he just added the Baptist forum because every other denomination had its forum. The fact that the Baptist "denomination" is an oddity of Christianity makes it very difficult to have any theological unity among Baptists. I suppose the only similarities we share are our views on the two Biblical ordinances of baptism and the eucharist, as well as the fact that we are very un-Catholic (though not necessarily anti-Catholic). And as it turns out, anabaptists share these similarities. So I suppose it is fitting that if we are to have a Baptist forum, anabaptists should be here too.
