what about meat? The stuff you can buy in the grocery is not slaughtered by a Shochet. We have Safeway, QFC, Albertsons and Fred Meyer Groceries, but I dont know if any of them sell Kosher meats? I cannot get out to the store my self and have to send my son after groceries, so I have to know exactly what to tell him to get... it makes things even more complicated. Also wondering about cheese and cheese sauce in the jar (I think Ragu makes some of these), cheese soup (campbells in the can) ... are these kosher? cheddar, monterey jack, colby and colby jack sold as 2 pound blocks?

Flopsy, if I remember correctly, you said you live in or near Seattle. If you wanted, you could shop at www.albertsons.com (http://www.albertsons.com) and purchase kosher meats through them. I have done that myself...it is not cheap, but they have a very nice selection. And, since you cannot get out, they will deliver them to your home for a small fee.
Shalom~

You might have to print off a list of Kashrut symbols to give to your son. It's not to hard to find quite a bit of kosher stuff if you learn the symbols.
Tillamook cheese is all kosher - but isn't always marked that way. (They don't use animal rennet). They do make certified kosher cheese as well but it is expensive and the only difference between the two is that for the kosher stuff they flew in a Rabbi to observe the process.
http://www.kashrut.com/ Everything you ever wanted to know about rabbinical kosher - including links to on-line kosher grocery stores.

And it was on this forum that I learned that Cabot's cheese (from Vermont and yummy) didn't use animal rennet.

Flopsy, I gave you two links on another of your threads, that will take you to a site that shows you many many cheeses that are Kosher, did you see that. It will help you tremendously when looking through your sales papers to make a shopping list for someone else to follow.
Also remember to check sardines and tuna for heckshers ( the kosher symbols) some aren't Kosher, but now the StarKist Tuna fillets are Kosher, when they first came out they weren't certified, but they now are, and are easy to prepare, great for traditional fish dinners for Erev Shabbat
http://www.starkist.com/template.asp?section=products/fillets.asp
Some Kosher meats that are avaiable nation wide ( but aren't exactly healthy) are Hebrew national which makes hot dogs, kielbasa, bologna, salami, etc.
Also Gordons fish fillets, ( except for unkosher things like shrimp and such, the fish they have that is a kosher fish is prepared Kosherly. They are certified by the Tablet K.

Here is a site flopsy that you can order entire Kosher meals and use them for emergencies, or for cooking on shabbat ( no flame) . They are good, nutritious, no preservatives, and come with a Chicken soup mix ( you must supply the hot water) the main course that has plenty of food, and the heater, and a little bag of about 7 chocolate chip cookies.
Great for travel, emergencies ( power out) or late for makeing dinner for shabbat, and you get a hot meal with no fuss!

NO, I don't know of any canned or jarred cheese sauce that is. :(
cheese soup (campbells in the can) ... are these kosher?
Campbells cheese soup is not kosher, and neither are their soups. Check your stores brand for a hecksher, that is what I look for in my local store. I also buy organic soups too and they are mostly Kosher, if you get a Vegan soup they are Kosher, no animal products.
cheddar, monterey jack, colby and colby jack sold as 2 pound blocks? It depends on who made it. Some cheese are some aren't some don't say. Please refer to that cheese list I gave you on the other thread. Better yet, here it is again.
Here is the list by brand Vegetarian Cheese list ( kosher (http://cheese.joyousliving.com/CheeseListBrand.aspx))
And here it is by Type Vegetarian Cheese list by type (http://cheese.joyousliving.com/CheeseListType.aspx)
use the print button at the top to print out a list to keep handy when shopping or making out your list.
