Hi, Yes, I've been to a Vineyard. The one I went to I loved the music and the relaxed atmosphere. It could've just been this one church but they weren't big on evangelism. I brought a friend who wasn't a believer and he wanted to speak to the youth pastor. The youth pastor said, yeah, some time. I kept calling the church and he said, I don't know what the big deal is. He didn't seem evangelical to me; so it's possible that it was just him or maybe they are all like that. But I thought the services were neat and all. Do you go to one? Tapero

We were members of a Vineyard church in the late 1980s, and briefly visited a Vineyard church a couple years ago. I saw/heard the late John Wimber at a conference or two.

I got a question, I am new here in a forum, I'm curious about that blue line, when I started here the whole line was blue, now is a little bit red, what that means?

John Wimber was the man re Vinyard Fellowship. I did not have the privilege to see or hear him in person, but heard very good reports of his ministry.

The closest I've been to a Vineyard church is this:

When we were overseas, we went to a "Lay-led, chapel sponsered, pentecostal/charismatic" service. It had been started by a Vineyard minister, but when he transfered, a lay minister took over. By the time we left, they got an A/G chaplian, and he took over that service, melded it with the "Gospel" service and therefore effectively ended the whole deal.

SO really, I don't know how much of the Vineyard influence was still there when we started.
I like their music.

I know we have some in our area (So. Cal.), but I've never been to one.
I've heard from other non-denominationalists that they have a heavy focus on demonic deliverance?

Wonder if anyone's heard this too?

I'm very careful about 'judging' deliverance ministries, because Jesus and His disciples in their day cast out demons as a normal part of their ministries (why don't we???)

It is my understanding that Vineyard grew out of the Jesus Movement of the 1960's. I believe the church actually started as an offshoot of Calvary Chapel which was founded by Chuck Smith. Vineyard split with Calvary due to some minor differences. I understand that Vineyard is much more into worhsip while Calvary is more evangelical and Vineyard services allow for speaking int tounges, etc. while Calvary recognizes the gift but it is emphasized in service.

I may be wrong here so feel to correct if necessary.

I was part of the Vinyard for a couple of years here in memphis. There was not a heavy focus on demonic deliverance, but, it did come around from time to time. We currently attend a Lifelink church. It is very much liike the Vinyard as far as the worship and music goes.

Excellent information - I go to a Calvary chapel & have been to the other's (Greg Lauri, Raul Riese, etc) & they're really good.

But what you said here is a great example of why I don't claim that denominations are "dividing" necessarily.
They're more to me like 'ways of worship' and different points of focus that one person feels more comfortable with over another.

Go where you're most comfortable, where the focus is mainly on what you find important --just as long as they preach the uncompromised gospel ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE & have the Right GOD.
