The local news in Los Angeles was talking about a new fashion statement.

$80 live three-inch bejeweled cockroach

A pet you can wear. They have a lease that you can pin to your shirt or jacket.

I hope no one wears one to church.

Cool! I've got to get one, or two, or maybe ten!
They will make perfect Pascha presents! ^_^

I wonder what the Los Angeles Health Department would say.

Since they frown on vermin (cockroaches and rats) in the restaurants, what would they do if a patron walked in with a roach brooch.

I'd faint if I saw one.

Excellent idea!

We should breed them in the churches and fill them with beautiful shiny roaches!^_^

$80 seems suprisingly cheap!
I'm suprised they are allowed to market them. I could understand if they were dead roaches.

I'm allergic to the stinking beasts.

I too, think I would pass out if I encountered one or more.

Their feces smells like old rotten coffee grounds and it has given me an asthma attack.

I guess it gives an new meaning to
One man's garbage is another man's treasure.

One man's vermin is another woman's jewel.

If I remember correctly, the only animal allowed inside a Church is a cat. This is to keep the mice away. :)

Researchers have studied the diet of cats out in the wild, and they eat a lot of insects such as grasshoppers, crickets, and yes, roaches.

If the animal is small and runs, well, cats will play with it.

Thanks for pointing out the spelling error.

I guess I was thinking about broaching the subject of brooches.

I've watched my cat play with mice, it is quite funny and satisfying that cat is doing it's job.

Fortunatly in England Roaches aren't much of a problem. The only place I've seen them here is at the very summit of a hill I once climbed.

I thought that us cats were permitted in Church also because we are clean unlike nasty smelly dogs and also because we understand the Liturgy better than nasty smelly dogs and not just because we catch mices and rats and bugs?

Identity crisis.

A dog that wants to be a cat?

Is that why some dogs hate cats? A little green showing (aka jealousy)?

OTOH, there was a neighborhood siamese cat who had the habit of climbing a tree and meowing so that the dog would come and stand under that tree barking at it.

Then the cat would wait for just the opportunity to jump on the dog's back and ride it through the streets. No wonder the dogs in that neighborhood wanted to kill cats.

A tabbycat that sometimes trains dogs. A young pit sitting at my feet as I type, crunching on a bone.

I then told him "даваи!" and he gave it up to me.

Anyway, nasty smelly dogs don't scare me. I scratch them on the nose. I learned that trick when I was almost still a kitten. Works every time.

The radio announcer asked the Roach Brooch entrepreneur what would happen if a pet parrot on someone's shoulder encountered a pet bejeweled cockroach being worn by someone else.

He responded, "Not a good situation."

OH boy, this reminds me of Saturday night's vigil. We had the doors to the chapel open as it was really warm and I was standing right by the door. Sometimes we have deer walk by and I heard something in the woods and looked out. That's when I saw this GIANORMOUS spider, it was closer to 3 inches long) sitting on the concrete outside the door (like three feet away from me). So for the last 30 mins of the service I kept checking to make sure the spider didn't come inside or even much closer to me.

I hope some entrepreneur doesn't decide to put a tarantula on a lease and call it a spider brooch.

What will they think of next.

Come Lord Jesus.

I think this is borderline animal cruelty.

I despise roaches, but they deserve a little dignity...

I think they should be available for our CF charactors :)

The AP report said that the designer uses "Madagascar hissing cockroaches with brightly colored Swarovski crystals glued to the hard outer shells."

Oblio posted a url showing what those hiss'n Madagascar cruis'n roaches looked like. Yikes.
They don't like bright sunlight either, so they will seek to hide. They do hiss, too, when disturbed.

Here is a picture of a model wearing one at a fashion show. She doesn't look happy and I bet the roach isn't either.

Matrona is right... smacks of animal cruelty and model cruelty also.

Would St. Seraphim of Sarov do such a thing? No.

Is Outrage!
