Okay... I'm rather new to all of this. Point of fact, I'm being baptised this Saturday. So I have a question for you who more knowledgeable and experienced than I.

Daily office doesn't seem to happen in the churches around here but is it okay to do the daily office on your own as a layperson? If I do, do I imagine the officiant or do I do that bit myself?

Thanks!

Certainly you can!

The advice of the Church of England is that if you say the Daily Office on your own (at home, for example), then you would say both the minister's parts and the responses.

Prayers for you for Saturday! :prayer:

That's what i do.

A very warm welcome to the Anglican Church!

Pray both parts, but use the 'us' form for the abolution. At least, that's why I do. :)

Can you find a parish that reads the morning and evening office? I bet I can find one that does in your area if you PM your zip code to me. Even if you read it by yourself, you are not by yourself - millions of other people are reading the same thing with you.

Congratulations on your baptism. Praise God!

You're gonna love it!

Say the Daily Office as read in the BCP but substitute "us" in the bits where appropriate. You'll get the hang of it and always remember that everyone does it differently and that's OK with God.

First - it is awesome that you will be baptized Saturday. Bless you, and may you be a bright light to the whole Church!

At least in the American BCP, the Daily Office is lay or clergy led, so absolutely do it at home. Or, if your parish does not yet have a regular rhythm of the Daily Office, maybe you and a few others can get together to get it going. It could be a very cool way to live into your baptismal vows!

(For absolution after confession, a lay officiant remains kneeling and substitutes "us" for "you.")

I'm snatching a minute at work here so I can't respond quite as fully as I'd like right now. But I did want to thank you all for the advice.. and for the very warm welcome!

I am going to say the same as everyone else. Pray all the parts and use "us." remember you may be reading the Prayer Book alone, but you're praying with the Church around the world.

Is there any instruction on how to pray the office online?
