Hello,
This is my first post. I was saved at a Weslyan church a number of years ago and their doctrine (if this is the wrong section for this please let me know) is that you can lose your salvation. It's the old argument between that doctrine and the once saved always saved doctrine of the Baptists. Not to knock any denomination, I am confused by it since I married a Baptist and have been a part of a Baptist family. So far my experiance has been that once you are saved you can go back to doing whatever. As long as you attend church once in awhile and say " Jesus" sometimes, you are ok. This is what I see take place in everyday life and is mentioned at Sunday School as happening among Baptists (I have gone to a Baptist church). It depresses me to be in a Baptist family and it's like being in the world! The swearing, going out with whoever, even living with people! I am sorry but I don't see saved people...if I am wrong please tell me how I am. To be recognized as saved the Bible says "you will know them by their friuts", you will know them by the love they have for each other. I don't see it...my spirit does not bear witness with any spirit here. But I am married and in the family and will continue to pray, and be an example (try to)! I just need to tell someone, to discuss it with people...please respond!

In Jesus,
Chuck

Bless your heart, what do I know.

You keep ,loving others, and loving God,and you will be blessed.

God is faithfull to his own, even when we are not,In my humble opinion,he has been faithfull to me.

God knows how to keep his own.

Your thoughts are correct. I don't know if I can provide any solace to you, but I will say prayer is a good place to start. Many people think that all you have to do is go to church a few times and do whatever you want during the week. With that said, I do not think that our salvation is dependent upon works alone. Obviously, there are ordinances, or commands that the bible gives us to attain our salvation, but anyone can fall away from God after being "saved." God never changes, but man can change.

There's another thread in this Restoration Movement section somewhere that talks about once saved always saved. If you look for it, it might help address some of your concerns about the way people are living, yet professing to be "christians." Be in prayer though for these people. People who act like that are the exact reason why I have had such a difficult time getting my parents into church. They see the hypocrisy, and say they don't understand why people do that, and don't want to be a part of it. It's sad, but people who are sunday morning sitters, who put in their 2 hrs a week, and then go to the bars and strip clubs Mon thru Sat, don't really do much as witnesses, and don't eally do much in expanding the kingdom of God.

I feel for you, brother. I'll pray for you and your family. Perhaps God placed you among them so that you'll reach out to them. :)

Hi -

I don't think you will find any OSAS people in this forum. I would be happy to talk to you about my own personal feelings about salvation, and I can certainly dig up Alexander Campbell's opinions (he's an early Restoration Movement thinker)...my feelings are actually anabaptist, though.

By the way, the OSAS is because of Calvinism...it's a very soft way of saying that you are predestined.

"Works" with sin.

It seems the OSAS crowd will often say "Well, you aren't saved by works" and quote Ephesians 2:8 and 9, but they always seem to leave off 10 and 11.

Works are not sin and sin is not bad works.

Also, they stay away from Hebrews 3:13 and 14 and Matthew 10:22.

God bless,

Chris

I was baptized in an RM church and am thinking about heading back to the RM family and I have to agree whole heartedly with what brother Frame has posted. I can see (BIGTIME) why unbelievers get so disgusted. No Christian should be living that kind of life. But I guess it is one of the stages or levels in Christianity perhaps a good number of us have been through - myself included.

It wasn't until the last 4 yrs that I realized I was leading a hypocritical life and that I needed to be more diligent in my faith and following Christ. Pray that those people get pushed over the edge of that lifestyle (double mindedness) and become awesome examples of Christ.

And also, try to be that awesome example of Christ too. Let them "experience" something different when you are in their presence! Make them wonder what you got (e.g. A Whole Life type of faith/Christlike character ALL the time)!!!

people tend to think that they can just relax and do no work by just living the life not quite true.
in the bible it states you should do a few of these thing to follow god to his kingdom follows his commands etc...ten commandments
communion, beliving him, church fellowship, and reading the bible and preaching the word
these are essiential thing to a christian life and if you dont do that then are you really saved?

There must be follow thru on the believer's part. I saw Benny Hinn on TV last night (I don't usually watch this quack), but I stopped to see what he was talking about. He said all you have to do is just say I believe in Jesus and you are saved! Where in the bible does it say that all you have to do is say "I believe in Jesus!" and you are saved??? I think it's explicity clear that we not only have to follow the steps of hearing,. believing, repenting, being immersed, AND living a christian life, striving to be more like God created us to be. Not just BELIEVE and pray the sinners prayer! ARGH! Oh, and I forgot, you have to give him some money too so YOU can reach other people with the gospel, by giving HIM (benny Hinn) money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
