View Full Version : Ancestry -- does it matter?

I've noticed, much more on some messianic e-mail groups than at CF, a huge emphasis on looking for Jewish ancestry. People getting all excited when they find out that, for example, someone's great-great-great-uncle had what might be a "Jewish name". Like I said, I haven't seen as much here, but I feel more comfortable to ask here. For a messianic/christian, does it really matter if they discover a possible Jewish ancestor back in their family line? I mean, I don't think it would change their beliefs one way or another. Please don't think I'm criticizing or trying to offend anyone, I'm only curious. :)

Nope - it shouldn't matter at all. But you are right - in certain circles - (mostly two house groups) it is very popular to search hoping to find a Jewish person in the family tree.

Wonder how many of these folks would still be searching if they thought another haulocaust was going to happen.

I have a record of at least 1 side of my family going back 16 generations with no Jewish blood whatsoever, in fact it only manages a 50 mile travel. Despite this peple keep telling me I look Jewish (including some Jews). But no it is not important and it does not matter to me what religion my ancestors were, what matters is my relationship with Yeshua and G-d.

[Young] John 8: 31 Jesus, therefore, said unto the Jews who believed in him, `If ye may remain in my word, truly my disciples ye are, and ye shall know the truth, 32 and the truth shall make you free.' 33 They answered him, `Seed of Abraham we are; and to no one have we been servants at any time; how dost thou say--Ye shall become free?'

True enough, Little Lamb.

I think what happens is that we search for reasons - why me and not my husband/wife? why me and not the rest of my church? Why me? A quick explanation might seem to be a bit of Jewish blood.

Deuteronomy (D'varim) 32:44-52 44 Moshe came and proclaimed all the words of this song in the hearing of the people and of Hoshea the son of Nun. 45 When he had finished speaking all these words to all Isra'el, 46 he said to them, "Take to heart all the words of my testimony against you today, so that you can use them in charging your children to be careful to obey all the words of this Torah. 47 For this is not a trivial matter for you; on the contrary, it is your life! Through it you will live long in the land you are crossing the Yarden to possess." 48 That same day ADONAI said to Moshe, 49 "Go up into the 'Avarim Range, to Mount N'vo, in the land of Mo'av across from Yericho; and look out over the land of Kena'an, which I am giving the people of Isra'el as a possession. 50 On the mountain you are ascending you will die and be gathered to your people, just as Aharon your brother died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people. 51 The reason for this is that both of you broke faith with me there among the people of Isra'el at the M'rivat-Kadesh Spring, in the Tzin Desert; you failed to demonstrate my holiness there among the people of Isra'el. 52 So you will see the land from a distance, but you will not enter the land I am giving to the people of Isra'el."

it appears more important for us to keep our faith with father.

It wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference whether there was any Jewish blood in my family line or not, I follow G-d's leading, not mans. I went to a sabbath keeping church before the family research that I mentioned in another place cropped up, but it has made me more curious.
And now the research that has recently discovered 'Jewish DNA', I suspect that this may be G-d's plan for the final in-gathering. I believe that at the moment they can only find traces in a fairly un-diluted blood-line at the moment but they will refine the technique.
Also, there's the Lost Tribes, I wonder, at the end, when the apostles are judging the lost tribes of Israel, how many will be christians?

I am so thankful that I discovered this group here on CF nearly 2 years ago when I first started studying MJ. Otherwise, I might have been much more swayed by the Two-House thing, since my mom had been somewhat exposed to it in years before. You guys helped keep me balanced!

I'm fully convinced God's laws are meant for everyone, Jewish or not. And I'm also sure that God has special callings for all of us, regardless of our genetic ancestry. He created each of us, and it's important to follow His leading for me, not for everyone else. Beyond that, I think we'll see less and less of this "favoritism" that people are so fond of, and more and more movement in the corporate Body as a whole.
