Yes, and this new forum is every bit as busy as our Non-denominational sub-forum was.

We also need a little saying like most of the other denominations have. Like: "One Bread, One Body - Catholic," or "Theologia Crucis - Lutheran." What are your suggestions for the Restoration Movement byline?

There's the old standby: "Where the Scriptures speak, we speak. Where the Scriptures are silent, we make something up.... I mean, we're silent." But that's a little long.

There's "No Creed but Christ." But that's too Sunday School.

How about "Communion every Sunday - Restoration Movement." :sorry:

"No Creed but Christ" doesn't sound bad at all-it may be too SS for those that heard it in SS but most people in the world did not.

Keep in mind that "Restoration Movement" is the key-and something along that line might be what ya want.

Tell ya something else: Someone needs to post a "sticky" explainin' the RM.

Since it's hanging out there for all the world to see in "congregations" they'll be comin' and askin' what it's all about.

I think "No Creed but Christ" is awesome - and it always tweaks every Rulemonger when you say it!

It seems I'm your moderator. :P

I'm not currently serving in the RM, but my bachelor's degree is in biblical studies & christian ministry from a heritage school. While studying there, I was a pastor in a rural Independent Christian Church. I've decided for now to make no denominational claim, but I respect the RM and continue to have many friends who call RM churches home. :)

I think a descriptive title would be good, as would a sticky post explaining the RM. I'm not a big fan of stickies—it's well known the best way to keep people from reading a thread is to stick it—but a single sticky thread can be helpful. I'd recommend using a thread or two to discuss these two things. Once a motto is selected, I'll ask Erwin to set it up. I can sticky a thread for you once it's written.

Short straw, eh?

I'm a PW! My husband is a minister & will be ordained this fall with the Disciples of Christ. He's currently in the Search and Call process. He's also working on his Ph.D. (History of Christianity - focus 19c). I've sat through the "Disciples History and Thought" classes & read a bit of Cambell and Stone, and understand the history of the splits, etc. I'd be happy to take a crack at the sticky...

What do you mean by "Icon"? Do you mean the little cross or whatever? I have a brown one with a gold cirlce behind it, which I believe is the default non-denominational cross. I've notice other RM'ers with the plain yellow "Protestant" cross, and a few with the thick black cross, which I think belongs to the Baptists.

My suggestions for the RM icon:

A road map of Cincinnati

Alexander Campbell on a $20 bill

A cross perched atop Cane Ridge

The "thick black" just means "christian" and is available for any and all users. It's sort of the generic/default. I like it because it doesn't add any extra labels.

Erwin can be pretty stingy with creating new faith icons. He doesn't want every possible group to have their own, as that could get out of hand. Since RM has its own congregational area, I don't see a reason not to ask for an RM icon. First step is to create one. If someone creates an icon (and I can help with this if you have larger artwork that could be condensed), I can put in the request.

How about the Disciples of Christ chalice as the icon?

How about the Disciples of Christ chalice as the icon?

That's specific to the Disciples of Christ. It's not really relevant to the rest of the RM.

I'm fine with a plain brown cross with no gold circle behind it.

I'm actually lightly against the creation of a new icon (I've been reading a lot of Campbell lately) - the whole point of being part of this movement is that all Christians be restored to one church...I'm ashamed that we are now 3 (OK, 16?) quasi-denominations.

Yay new forum! I don't care about icons. I'll just keep my pentecostal dove/cross thing since that was my upbringing.

How bout this: "We are Christians only ..."

Or: "We are Christians only, but not the only Christians." (thought that might be a bit too long though)

Emergentpdx, can you create a poll with everyone's suggestions for a forum title so we can vote on this issue?
