I am thinking about having a patronal Icon commissioned for the local Episcopal parish that I attend occasionally.

Most of the decent Iconographers I know of though woudl refuse to write an Icon for a non-Orthodox Church. So does anyone know of any good Iconographers that would be willing to do this?

I have created some. But I don't do this for money; that would be like selling children. But neither are they Orthodox icons. More what you might call Episcopalian ones. I should really illustrate them for you, but I have given them all away; St Benedict, St Bernard, St Therese of Avila, St Laurence.

So, out of interest, which Saint would you want, and what size would you want it?

(I am not strong, and can only do a limited number, and it depends on a lot of other factors.)

well it all depends. It would be St. John as that is the patron of the local Church, but I would have to talk with Mother Sharron before I settled on a size.

In the Creative Arts section there is a thread called Art in the Christian Church. It was posted by an EO Iconographer, phildavid. You might ask him as well. Good Luck, i'd love to see a picture of the finished product.

Is that St John as in the Evangelist? That would really be lovely. He has always been one of my favourite saints, and I used to speak of him to the children in Sunday School, and call him Our Lord's 'best friend'. Every child understands that concept. :)

I can never read the words of commital of Our Lady to St John, spoken by Our Lord on the cross, without being moved by it.

St John the Evangelist is the Church I attend too. Obviously not the same but that is who it is dedicated to.

* Sorry for taking this off topic

Former Bishop of Georgia, Shipp's wife paints outstanding Icons. Here is one she did which is in Savahan:

Well, he is holding a Church in an Icon of Augustine, so that would be Pope/Bishop of Rome Gregory the Great.

And +Augustine is obviously holding an icon of Christ.

And, I am guessing the men on the Ship are the Monsk that came with +Augustine.
Not sure - anyone have any ideas?

Hi Joe,

I was wondering if anything had come of this? If so, do you have a photo to share? :)

Not sure where you are in your walk now - Judaism (St John's Episcopal Church)??? God bless you.
