I went to work today in downtown Dallas. I left the office at 4:25 pm and immediately found myself in bumper-to-bumper traffic on I-35 North toward Denton all the way from before the American Airlines Center to past the World Trade Center and Marketplace, where cars were flooded and people were stuck in a flooded parking lot, then it cleared up for a bit, and then at Mockingbird there were lots of cars in the frontage road, because the road was all flooded; it looked like a wave of water must have come down and just swept some of the drivers off the road. What a mess! It took me over 45 minutes to go the few miles from downtown to where it cleared up just north of downtown. You couldn't exit to the side roads and cut over to Harry Hines because the roads were all flooded. Wycliff was all under water (Wycliff ends up going past the Cathedral EricTheRed is talking about, but it's several miles east of I-35).

We had 11.25" at my house in a northeast Dallas suburb. At one point, it was raining over 3" per hour.
My family had planned to meet up in Arlington at my Mom's house, but thankfully we cancelled. The forecast was for a few inches - not 10+!
2 ladies were swept away in Turtle Creek just about 2 blocks from the cathedral Eric mentioned. One was rescued, one was not. :crosseo:
My younger son and his girlfriend were driving through on their way from Austin to Oklahoma City, in his small sedan. I was really worried about them, but they made it to our house and stayed until the worst was over, then headed north.
I've never before seen rain come down like that for such a long time.
