Well, I guess my meeting went well today. I officially became a catechumen. Before that, we discussed many of the issues I had been concerned about, as well as Lent. I know have a better idea of what I trying to accomplish and we discussed my specific food issues. It turns out that his wife is a nurse and a nutritionist, so he was aware of health issues. We discussed some of my non-food related Lent issues. I'm going to try to limit my on-line time to 30minutes per day. I feel like I've been hit by a truck, just exhusted, but at the same time, feel like I am more prepared for what's to come. He did warn me that this will be a difficult time coming up, but assured me that the church will be praying for me.

Yay!

yes, during this time, the whole church the world over is praying for the catechumens extra. It's written into the Presanctified Liturgy! How wonderful--keep running, the journey is far but you can have your eyes on the prize the whole time!

Will your children be attending catachumen classes with you?

Inquiring minds and all that...

Well, my church doesn't have classes. I've been meeting one-on-one with the priest. He gives me reading assignments, then meet to talk about the reading. He said the 3yr old can be baptized whenever. The 6 yr old can be enrolled in the Sunday School and then we'd discuss him at a later date. So far, Liam, the 3yr old, has only come to church with me twice. Calum, the 6yr old, only once. Liam has been so sick, if he doesn't feel up to it, I don't make him come. With Calum, I don't really want to push him. He is learning some prayers and is usually the one to remind me about before meal prayers.

How cute! Congratulations, Kamikat! Welcome to the family! Look what an aunts and uncles and fathers and grandfathers you're gonna have as your kin now (the Saints, I mean)!

Calum might be interested in observing the altar boys. Most boys love serving on the altar and seeing what is behind the iconostasis (curiosity saved the cat and the boy). :D

Wonderful news!

on another note...
Why is it that the Greek church does not make Catechumens?

Because each church has a different practice. My priest just reads the first prayer in the service of catechumen-making over the person. Some do the whole rite with the rejection of the devil and all that. It's diversity according to location, need, and custom!

Congrats! My wife and I are still catechumens, and there is a chance that when we are recieved into the Church on Holy Saturday that the Metropolitan will be there to do it.

They do, but they usually do it right before the baptism/chrismation (or just before chrismation if that's all you will be recieving)

And congratulations Kamikat, you will continue to be in my prayers

Very true. I was made a Catechumen with the full service (exorcism and all) in a Greek parish a couple of weeks ago. Interestingly, they did refer to me as a Catechumen before we had the service.

Hopefully I will be received on Lazarus Saturday!
