Have you ever written a praise & worship song?  Have one jotted down on a scrap piece of paper somewhere?

AnnMercy2
14th November 2002, 12:33 AM
Yea, I wrote one song that the Lord gave me. I wrote it down in the back of my bible I had at the time. I still have that bible, I look at it every now and then. I got the bible back in 1990, so that would have made me somewhere around 11 years old.

Yeah I've been writing little songs since I was in grade 4.

That's neat about you having that bible for so long.

I still have the Bible my parents gave me when I was around 6 or 7.... today all the 'childish pictures' have been ripped out (did that when I was a 'cool' teen) and the cover has long fallen off, but I still have it.

The Bible I still use today is the NIV they gave us in grade 5 at my Christian school.  That was 14 years ago, so you can imagine the days that Bible has seen.  Wish I could say it was a well read as it could be for its age.

Oh, but this thread is supposed to be about songs, not Bibles. :P

yes... well not a song but I have written many prayer/poems... you can find a lot of them in my posts...

It is important to express our spirituality in creative ways, it illuminates our souls.

I have written several songs for God. Though only 2 have words, the rest are just music, mainly guitar. I say they are song for God because thats where i believe all of my inspiration for them comes from.

I write songs and poems all the time. Most just happen to turn to God near the end even of I don not intend for them to.

this song is an oldie- the melody part,
the words were given to me in a prayer/worship time, about 3 years ago.
and i do not claim it as my song.

You are my Sonshine
My only Sonshine,
You make me happy, Lord every day.
You always know Lord how much i love You,
please don't take Your Sonshine away.

The other night Lord,
as i was sleeping, i dreamed
You took me by the hand,
I heard sweet music, then we were dancing
at the Wedding Feast of The Lamb!

I heard the Angels singing Your Praises
as You stood right by my side,
with eyes like diamonds,
You said, ' I love you!
welcome Home, My beloved, my bride '!

Just curious... how do you write a praise & worship song and it's not about/to God?

I think all p&w songs are about/to God. However, sometimes their about/to Him directly and sometimes indirectly. For example: you could write a song about what God's done in your life or how you see him in nature but not directly address it to God. The poll says "to/for God" which I take to mean directly addressed to God.

to date i have never written a song to praise God. I've written many poems, but none of them where ever really intended to be set to music.

I have done the same thing, except I was 13 and it was 1993. Just found the Bible a year or two ago and it also has some of my sermon notes and prayer lists going back to 1992.

I wrote this one a few years back:
"Let your light shine
Don't hide it under stones or far away
Let your light shine
Look upon the light of each new day.
When our Lord calls upon each of us to show His love I pray,
Let your light, let your light shine."

Hi UnitedIstand,

Great to have you with us.  In the context of this thread/poll, singing in the spirt or free worship I would not count as writing a song.  Unless you have written it down, and have published it for others to sing.  Free worship is very akin to praying and is an ultimate form or praise and worship to God.

I have written songs for the heavy metal band I was in, and songs for my new project. But none for the Lord, however, I am in a fellowship/worship band at my church!!!

I've written some songs, some for God, and some about whatever I feel like at the moment. But since I don't like choruses, or solos, or respecting the "rules" and things I was taught about music, ppl think they're bad. Apparently, you need to fit certain mold to be noticed, even in the CCM "industry".

I have written several poems. Most have been praises to Jesus. A couple of friends of mine worked out a tune to one of them. One of the best Southern Gospel groups plans to include it on their next CD. I have had some good comments about the song. I wrote the poem to thank and praise Jesus for all He has done for me. Since we are working on getting it recorded I wouldn't want to say anything else about it yet.

I've written several, or many, songs for the Lord over the past 25 years since knowing Him. Some of them are included in a book I recently had published, and are therefore copyrighted.

One song I wrote on a scrap of paper went like this:

He took out all the wrong
And made everything right.
He gave me a brand new song
And turned my darkness into light.
He put me where I belong
And made me acceptable in His sight.
Oh yes. He made me very strong
And He increased my might.

Sometimes I feel like the songs of worship bring Jesus right there in front of me, surrounding me. This can happen at church or when I'm kite flying to the music. I've wondered why this connection gets so strong at these times. It's like it creates an openness in me that I can't do on my own.
