View Full Version : Where do you think you sit?

Okay peoples, this poll may be a little tricky for some, so bear with me.
Consider a scale of -10 to 10. On one end of the spectrum at minus 10, we have a person who has never heard of God. Who doesn't even believe of anything. If a missionary tells them about the gospel, and they become "aware" that there is the possibility of the existence of a God, they become minus 9.
Point 0 (zero) is when a person accepts Jesus Christ into their life and is saved that is, becomes a Christian.
However, it doesn't end there. The Christian walk is a life-long journey. But for the purpose of the poll, zero to 10 is where the individual becomes a 'disciple'. Someone fully on fire for God, spreading the word and able to raise new Christians just as they were.
So... to the question of the poll. Where do YOU think you stand on the scale? Bear in mind, the descriptions beside the scale are only indicators to give you an idea of where one may stand.

spreading the word and able to raise new Christians just as they were .
Droobie: Could you explain this please? I do not think anyone but God can give faith.
To tell the truth I am not too happy with this poll.

I put myself at 7 (a student of the Bible), but I thought the answers were a little weird. I don't actively evangelize 100% of the time, but I feel that I am able to teach a newcomer about the bible (9). However, I felt weird putting myself at 9 because I am not a full-time minister (8), and the way the answers were worded it seemed as if one had to be in order to place oneself above that answer. Anyway, the scale just seemed a little messed up to me. Maybe if the poll didn't have the scale attached it would work better.

Hmm, I agree with Stormy on this one.
I don't think it's our place to judge faith, even our own faith. In my opinion, it's saved or not saved. If we start ranking each other it's bound to cause problems.
I put 7, but should of put 6 now that I think about it.

i put wanting to learn more about God.
i've been out evangelizing before, but i don't feel that the top choices could refer to me, cuz it was a ministry for my bible school. but yeah...:)

I think you can be on fire for God but still have a long way to go. i think were always on a journey of learning more - so i dont think you can stop at 10. I put 6 im still learning from youth group, discipleship group and church. Ive done some youth outreach which was cool but still growing. :)

Aaah.. by this I do not mean 'giving' someone faith. God is the one who has done everything there needs to be done for us to be saved, however it is up to us as Christians to spread the word of the Gospel. On my scale from 0 to 10 we have someone who has just accepted Christ, right through to a fully mature Christian who is able to 'raise new Christians' as it were. Of course I'm not suggesting that they replace God.
Bear in mind on the road from not knowing God to being able to lead someone to Christ, some take it in leaps and bounds, and some never get past being saved and are able or happy to serve in other ways.
Again, I stress, the examples next to the numbers are just that. Examples only. I felt it better with some sort of explanation rather than just numbers for the poll. :)

It seems too juvenile to me. "If you clean the garage, I'll let you drive the car, if not, you're grounded." I prefer to serve God because He deserves it, just for being God. i think i understand what u mean droobie when u first become a christian i think u are just begining a whole new journey and u mature along the way. the more u spend time with God the more u know hos will and grow in him. i mean im just learning to listen to God more now wen im praying instead of just talking all the time. then theres the first time u pray in tongues or have a vision - or wen ur really moved by the holy spirit.

I don't think you have to be a "Minister of a Church" to be in full-time ministry so I chose a full time minister. I mean we all have a chance to minister to people God places in our paths each day. It's up to us to take the time to minister or not.

How about... desperately hungry for more of Jesus Christ - the bread of life and living water - discovering daily God's grace and realizing that I know less and less about everything I thought I once knew, only to realize now that Christ is my all and that I cannot imagine life outside of Him?
This would have been my selection.
This poll seems to be another exercise of those of us who attempt to put a box around a God that surpasses all space, time, and understanding.

If that were to happen, I think I would then be about about an 8.5

I went with 8 because I like the word ministry. It reminds me that my entire life is my ministry and that I am to live my life in a manner that I could rightly call it my ministry. I too found the examples slightly misleading, but understood the authors explaination too. Hard to make an effective "spiritual scale" since we are only human and God is the one that sees our heart.

Alright, I put "student of the bible" thinking for a slight second that ministers are only those like Pastors... then, after I had clicked, I remembered... DUH!!! We are all called to ministry... in the way we act, the way we speak, our thoughts, in everything we do, "Shall we praise him in all of our ways"... (can't quote the exact quote... but close enough)... we minister to people by the example we set...
"The leading cause of athiesm in the world today is Christianity"
sorry, randomness, but, it's true... because, there's a lot of us Christians who do not practice what we preach... we say we're Christians, then turn around and do another thing...I was recently convicted of that... (well, about a month and a half ago)... but, i'll only tell that story to those who really want to hear it... anyways, i'm now a leader figure in my youth... which means, I have young minds who are looking 2 me to be an example to them, to be what God has called all of us, even myself to be... say, do, etc. Anyways.... sorry for rambeling... but, yes... we're all called to be ministers... wether it be just by the life we lead, or we stand up every Sunday speaking the words God has called us to share. Well, anyways... that is all I have to say, i'm done rambeling... *smiles*

Hmm, this poll is mighty odd... Because I have been on fire for God, evangelising left and right at times, but I know next to nothing about God. I teach about Jesus and dying for our sins and such, but I don't know all that much of the bible. Also, I have been baptised in the Holy Spirit, but never in water. Just a strange one, there.

Aye, I can relate. In my Christian life I have had many ups and downs, and right now I am at a good point, heading upwards. But I am constantly pushed down with sin, and I try to be a good person, and I try so hard ot be nice and giving, but right now I am going through a hard time. And it's just a struggle, right now, a time with Jesus by my side, and I feel strng with christ, but a struggle with life and this world.

I feel that I stand between 5 and 6.
I lean a little more to the left than I've been told I should, but I do have a sincere desire to learn more about God. Deciding if the whole Bible is correct and complete is something I am trying to do now.
I have read a lot of literature lately and I must admit I believe the words of Christ in red, but the rest I'm still questioning  . I have prayed  about this and I think God will lead me in the right direction. I also am hoping He sends people I can converse with to give me a better understanding.

This is an interesting poll. I marked wanting to learn more about God. I do this by reading the bible, listening to others, attending church, and at web site such as this. People can answer as they feel on this one but God is the one that knows exactly where we are at on this oneOne thing about people God gave me insight into a long time ago, A person can say anything and professes to be anything but a person's actions show where they actually are.

Morning Greetings!
I feel Im able to teach, but my memory of scripture is very weak. I keep key phrases or summaries in mind, but as to memorizing, I am failing. I have never had this ability in a keen sense within normal life either. Its kind of annoying to me, however Ive found that even in this downfall of mine, the Lord blesses me with scripture thoughts when necessary. I believe if I committed just a bit more to Him in this, and trust that when I read deeply, Ill remember more, it would work.
If anyone has suggestions, Im willing to listen.
Thanks!

hmm, I think the order's a little mixed up imo.. someone who's serving in full time ministry is going to be able to tell people about the gospel and rearing disciples, so I think that should be at the top.. but actually, I don't think it should be on the list at all because God doesn't call us all to full time ministry so it's unfair to lift those called to that position above others in equally important positions

I am wanting to learn more about God. I would most definitely like to be higher up on that list, but I just don't seem to be as committed as some people are. I want to be reading the Bible more often so I can learn about the Lord more often, but it seems that for some reason I can read the Bible for several days in a row and then I quit doing it. I need to change this so I can learn more about God and hopefully teach and lead others to Christ.

I'm a student of the Bible. Shouldn't all Christians be that? Not in that we need to get a doctorate in theology. But every time we go to church, aren't we studying the Bible? Doesn't that constitute a student? Personally, I intend to go into full-time ministry. But the only difference there should be between me and the next Christian is that I make my living off of it. Every Christian should constantly be looking for ways to spread the gospel.

I believe we still need to be realistic in situatins in our lives for instance if something got broke as a child there was no going and buying a new one of that thing not cos of lack of money but because my parents were that fanatical they would go if we are meant to have another god will provide it for us.
so i guess on a scale of 1 - 10 i am about a 6

Thank you for sharing that. I did not grow up in a Christian environment, it was more like a Stephen King real life novel one, but I am so grateful for Christ 'cause I have a totally new life. There seems to be a common pattern among people who grew up in a Christian home and even those who didn't, but accepted Christ later in life. Most people who grew up in a Christian have told me they were never really given the freedom to find Christ in their own personal way and need. Well I put full time minister, as I am a missionary serving full time....however I often dont feel 100% on fire for God....sometimes I feel Im totally walking out of the will of God....saved, baptized but definatly not in close fellowship, for the most part I am a student of the Bible. I love to learn more about God and hope to apply His truthes to my life.

I want to know more. A couple years ago I studies a lot. Life got too hecktic, and my priorities got really screwed up. Recently, God has dropkicked my life to the point where he's the only support I have. I wish I knew why I grow more in faith when I am going through tribulation.

I'm still in the process of trying to learn more about God. I'm a "student of the Bible" and I absolutely love studying it.
It's like I thirst for more information about God, it's awesome. ^_^

This is quite the clever little poll...Thanks

interesting poll..
i put 7, but 6 and 9 also apply.
I think 9 can apply to a mature christian that is not an 8.....
maybe I just think 8 and 9 should have been switched around......
*Starlight*
19th April 2006, 12:47 PM
that shouldn't be a scale.... for example, I don't attend the church regularly, but I want to learn more about God, which has a higher position in the poll...
and, by the way, I don't agree with saying that "becoming a Christian" is a synonym of "being saved", because it implies that religion saves people... but religion doesn't save people, God does!

I'm assuming this is meant to be a scale of devotion rather than of ability to evangelize. As far as devotion goes, 8 or 8.5. As far as evangelism goes, 6, 7.5 at the highest. Then again, I tend to focus on evangelizing by example rather than direct discussion.

I believe that Christians must preach the Gospel as the bible tells us to do.We are caught in the middle of a Battle that is killing this generation.Christians Its time to go to War! This is a Spiritual War,The enemy is attacking our friends and families. We can not just Go to church on Sundays then Go to our homes and ignore the Genocide that is happening right outside our doors. All Christians whether your Baptist,Catholic,or Non Dominational we must All stand together and bring the fight to the enemy. Our streets have became another Sodom and Gomorrah with all the sexual immorality, sexual perversion(homosexuality),genocide(murder/abortion-that has become another holocaust far greater than Hitlers holocaust that killed millions of Jews abortion has killed billions of our youth),and godless religions that are corrupting our youth and our moral obligations;religions such as mormons,Wiccan,Evolution,Islam, and Worldism. These people are crushing the youth of this nation when the youth of this nation are looking for God these cults are the only people who answer them our Christians are too busy at home watching tv or doing something else.
These cults answer them and spread their lies that will corrupt and condemn the youth of this nation unless we do something about it.We have to pick up our cross and fullfill the great commission by going outside and preaching the word of Christ door to door and not just to the people who ask.We not only should preach the word but we should also stand up as brothers and sisters in Christ and stand up against this moral corruption that is sucking the life out of this society. This is a call to arms to have our voices be heard and fight all the lies and corruption of our society and follow Christ no matter what the enemy throws at us.Will you answer the battle cry? God Bless You All
2 Timothy 2:3-4 "Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs—he wants to please his commanding officer."
Matthew 28:19-20" Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
1 Timothy 4:13"Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching."
2 Timothy 4:2"Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.
Philippians 1:18"But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice."
1 Corinthians 9:16"Yet when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!"
Luke 6:46-49"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."

Interesting topic/poll. I'm a Holy Spirit filled, fully bible believing & active Christian & therefore in fulltime Minestry.
I've done some street work,-talking to people & going through a questionaire with them, to got them to THINK.
door knocking - with an invite to an occasion etc. I'm no longer that active in that way. & I've also been involved with Alpha courses.
Interestingly; I now think that God works in us ; individually or in the group that is active, through such endeavours while He does what He does best in those we have contact with.

I grew up Catholic and never really understood a lot beyond Catholicism. I drifted from the church but never left God. I wanted to return to church but not a Catholic church. After a tragedy hit my family, we went running straight into the arms of our Lord and that is where we will stay.

Ok, so I've apparently voted on this poll before but if I had the chance to do it again, I'd vote again and this time I'd vote 9, Able to teach someone about the true Gospel according to the Catholic Church and able to defend the Catholic Church rather adequately.
