View Full Version : Why do other denoms post here?

Okay, after seeing a very interesting thread get locked because of people who aren't Baptist throwing their .02 in, I wondered why are they allowed in here? This is a place for Baptists/Anabaptists to discuss our beliefs and views on things just as the thread for their denom has the same purpose. Couldn't they make these sections like the Singles/Marriage threads where singles can't post in the married section and married people can't post in singles? Don't get me wrong, I love learning and talking to people of other denominations, but the Baptist/Anabaptist section is not the place, imho. I hope I didn't offend anyone, but it just agitates me a little to see other denoms come in here, seemingly only to stir things up. Maybe they're trying to minister to us, you know, since we aren't members of the true church? ;)

"Christian Forums - Uniting all Christians as One Body."

That's at the top of the page remember? Maybe they are just trying to fullfil the founder's mandate?

Well, I'm new here, but it seems to me the rules state that anyone can post a question anywhere. But in these denom-spec. forums, a person not of that denom is allowed to read and question but not respond. Do I have that right?

I think that is basically correct. A post must be in fellowship (like this one) or a question and must never debate.

In fellowship.

:) No, I posted this in agreement. I mean when I have traveled over to their forum, I know several members are fellow Baptists, it is difficult not to discuss there, and I am sure it is the same for them here?!? It seems to separate us. But I do remember some of the more hyper versions causing allot of conflict here, as I am sure happens in their forum now.

I posted there recently, for a question posted here, and actually someone from our forum, that I speak with regularly, answered me -- there.

That is what I mean by it is confusing.;) Referring to the rules..

What is wrong with someone sharing their experience. The thread in question started with a simple explaination and was reponded to emotionally and defensively. Maybe it is time to be a little less worried about the denomination and a little more worried about being Christlike. They will know you are my disciple because you love one another. I didn't get from the poster that he was trying to push his beliefs off on us. Maybe not being here in the past clouds my judgement, but I believe we should deal with the current and not hold the past against someone.

About other denoms posting in here. I find it kind of humors and very frustrating at times that this thread mixes two denoms that are very different. It is obvious how different when we discuss issues like non-resistance and Calvinism. Anyway, if we broke the forums down to the ones that can agree we would have to have an individual thread for each person.

I agree and have always agreed with this thought, I am also not one to hold the past in the present, sometimes I have to work very hard to do this, isn't that what we are taught? Draw and learn from our mistakes, but move forward persevering with a Christ like attitude! :prayer:

I read here often and on occasion post, I am a christain, a part of the body of Christ, just like you.

In God's eyes I think it matters very little whether we are baptist, non rdemoninationa', pentacostal ...as long as we entered into the way through His one and only Son Jesus.

Truth be told I come here cause in my circle of friends I am too conservative. and find that the only ones I know who share many of those same convictions are predominatly baptist, even mennonite. So I enjoy the fellowship

Those would be some pretty short threads! :D

I don't mind fellowshipping with other denoms, but my issue is that this is the Baptist forum, so why would they want to come here?

Sorry, i'm a brand new Christian so I don't know much. :sorry:

Don't forget Mennonite, Quaker, Brethren and other similar denominations.

They come for various reasons. Sometimes it's just to read what's up with other forums. Sometimes it's to inject information that someone is wanting to know about another denomination. Sometimes it can be someone snooping around and being quick to respond to something defensively without taking in the whole thread in context.

I don't mind too much when others come in to fellowship with us. If people from other denominations truly want to know something about the B/A beliefs then I feel it's better for them to bring the question in here instread of the GT area. A question in the GT area would get littered with too much other stuff and the person wouldn't truly understand our beliefs and why we do things differently than they do.

The only other denom specific forum I visit is the Semper Reformada. They put up with me there just like you do here. I am thankful for it. If I want an argument I simply go to Soteriology or Genreal Theology. I have no poblem with other denoms posting in this forum but they should confine themselve to asking questions or simple comments without debate. Not only is it rude but against the rules.

Forgive me, I'm a Salvationist. My parents are baptist though, and I was from 14-21!!! :)

I know sometimes I accidentally post in 'congregational' threads in the past, because I just clicked on 'newest' posts, and found a question I felt I might have some insight into.

It's only afterwards that I realised I had posted in a 'congregation' sub-forum, and thus bowed out.

I think some others do this too - click on 'newest posts', and find an area they might have an interest in (lent, for example), and post in it, only realising afterwards that it was directed to a particular denomination.

I've done it heaps - but it's never seemed to bother anyone up until now.

It's just sharing of different viewpoints - I was quite bemused by the hurt in the 'lent' thread, cos it SURE didn't look to me like someone forcing others to believe the same (but there were some rather hurtful comments made about catholics, just the same).

maybe people should also flat out say what they have to say, and not childishly make implications in their statements. (having no idea about the start of this whole ordeal)

Couldn't they make these sections like the Singles/Marriage threads where singles can't post in the married section and married people can't post in singles?

There is no rule that I am aware of that says that singles cannot post in the married forum and vice versa. I'm single and post in the marrieds forum from time to time and I've never had a problem.

Can a mod clear this up?

I was baptist for many years and found my way back to my jewish roots. Thus the messianic icon. I still attend a baptist church with my DH, but I also observe Torah...so go figure...heh
I still pop over here and read up on what's going on and the discussions, but until now have resisted the urge to continue posting in this forum.

Kinda miss y'all :P

Anyhow...

G-d bless and keep you,

Why is it we only have problems with other denominations posting on here when they disagree with us. We are thrilled when they come and and agree with our doctrines.

I fit into the category of this forum, but I hold to theology that is much different than most of those who post from other denominations.

Let me state very clearly. We as a group acted very poorly in the thread in question. Instead of talking about the "trouble makers" that come from other denominations, we should be discussing how we could have handled the issue better. For instance, a simple "We would like to discuss this issue in light of what Baptists/Anabaptists feel about lent" would have been much better than turning it into an argument.

As one of the Sisters on here has pointed out. Any personal admonishment should be handled directly without making it a public spectacle.

I enjoy coming in here, and occasionally posting, because I was Southern Baptist for most of my life. I still "relate" to Baptists, and most of my family is Baptist.

And GT is not a good area for fellowship! ;)

Joy, who hasn't read much of the thread in question.

Let me follow my last post up with a positive note. This board has been a wonderful blessing for me. Many of you, even the ones I don't always agree with have challenge my thinking and walked all over some prejudices that I had. Give it a couple of years and I may even learn to get along with Calvanists :holy:
