View Full Version : Lag Time Question

I have a question Erwin.

A friend was online so I sent them a PM at 2:45 a.m. today. I posted for awhile longer and used the refresh for the home page. My friend was still on line 40 minutes later when I logged out. (I hadn't received a reply).

Now, 2 hours later I am back and my control panel says that they were last online 30 minutes BEFORE I sent the PM!

How much lag time is there when a friend goes off line? Is the PM not sent immediately? It shows up on tracking right away.

Either the friend was not online when CF showed them to be or the PM did not get sent right away even though it showed up in tracking right away.

Is this a bug? (I've been watching for over a week now and this happens to me all of the time.)

Thanks!

This happens to me, too. Sometimes I see myself online when I'm not even logged in yet!

Does your friend physically completely log out when leaving CF?  Or do they just close their browser?  If you close your browser without completely logging off (selecting the logoff button at the top of every CF page and then clicking "here" on the next page) you stay logged on to the board for about an hour or so.

The time listed as when your friend was last online might've been the last time that they were active on the board.  (The last time they posted most likely.)

I'm not sure about this one.  I'll be online when I start up my browser from work because most times I just close my browser here because I'm back home and online within an hour and then I log off from there.  But I've never seen myself online and still had to log myself in before.

If you don't log out manually, the cookie remembers you for up to an hour (for those slow typists to avoid being logged out half way through typing) :)
