A wiki is "a type of website that allows users to easily add and edit content and is especially suited for collaborative writing." See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki .

I'm 45 and had to ask the same question so don't feel alone there. I looked up the definition on the internet and got almost the exact same meaning from www.dictionary.com (http://www.dictionary.com)

For a clear definition of a Wiki, go to: http://www.wikiweb.com/intro1.shtml

I didn't know what one was either. I think I'm going to learn and start posting on Wiki, once I figure out what it is!

My youngest learned the hard way what a wiki is. She was working on a project at school and her group got stuff off wikipedia and the teacher wasn't happy with the report and some of the answers. They told her where she got their info and was told some was not correct and some wasn't what she really wanted. So they maybe helpful, but you can't guarantee the accuracy and research.

What's A Wiki?
A wiki is a collaboration tool - a web site where the pages can be changed and INSTANTLY published using only a web browser (no programming required). Pages are automatically created and linked to each other.

Collaborate using modifiable web pages
Automatic web page linking and creation

Perhaps a wiki is like a combined blog effort, whereas a real blog is really susposed to mean a written work by just one person?

Anyhow, glad to know I'm not the only one who doesn't know exactly what a "wiki" is yet.

I thought it was a special club.

from what i can see a wiki is like a forum(like christian forums) but used for an educational purpose eg. to show history of man on the moon or how to make a cake etc. but you cant reply to them.

i came to this to find out what a wiki was too the name isnt very good sounds like a slang of wicked.

So I understand what a wiki is, but of what use is it here? And what does the number signify on some people's posts? Ex: Wiki :10

A wiki is basically an encyclopedia article that can be edited by anyone authorized to change it.

That way, you can start with a very small amount of information, and the more people read, the more can be added to it.

Ever seen an old encyclopedia article that had outdated information on it, and you thought, "I could just go in and fix it if they'd let me?" Well, that's what a wiki is. Of course, be always sure to provide links to your sources.

For example, there could be a wiki called The Jesus Prayer, and when clicked, it would read:

Jesus, mercy.

Good? Then, someone came along and said, "Well, I can add to that." Afterwards, it looked like:

Lord Jesus, have mercy on me.

Then, someone else came and said, "I can do better than that." The result being:

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me, a sinner.

Is that helpful?

Kyrie Eleison,

Gabriel

Chewbacca is a wookie. (http://freespace.virgin.net/john.coppinger/Wookie%2001%20copy.JPG)

I think I finally got it! Though, I don't know if I could explain it to anyone else. Yes, I can see a use for it, but understanding it first is required, I think?? And being dense myself, it took a bit!! Though it does seem to be also something one needs to use as well to hlep the understanding...

so how does that fit into CF? like, why do some people have WIKI symbols along with thier age etc?

Because I've actually edited a wiki. You get that from being a wiki member and modifying the entries.

The WIKI symbol means you are on the WIKI team

Now if someone made a post in the CF WIKI to explain the book of Genesis.and any other member read it and saw it was errorus and was missing the section explaining the relation to satan and a snake... the member can edit the WIKI and add that information in completing the lesson...Now say someone reads it to learn the book they have a full breakdown...

One very interesting point;
a WIKI is supposed to be an ARTICLE
of information,
which the author wishes to SHARE
w/ Others on-line . . .

Yet, Various ones find it necessary to
EDIT your WIKI and have it
express what THEY want said, rather
than the Original authors' INTENT . . .

One simple Example, could be the term
Deuterocanonical
vs
Apocrypha . . .

If the article uses the word
Apocrypha, it is SLANTED towards the Protestant

If the article uses the word
Deuterocanonical, it is based on the TRUTHS of Catholicism . . .

IF someone of your OWN FAITH
harshly EDITS your work, for fear of offending
Various parties, Well, you can see where Im going with this . . .

There was a SONG w/ LYRICS in my day which
went: " Express yourself " . . .

Personally, I try to keep my GOAL in MIND:
HEAVEN on EARTH . . .

Hijacked this from Wilkipedia:
"
What is a Wiki/Wikipedia?
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia collaboratively written by many of its readers. It uses a special type of website, called a wiki, that makes collaboration easy. Lots of people are constantly improving Wikipedia, making thousands of changes an hour, all of which are recorded on article histories and recent changes. Inappropriate changes are usually removed quickly, and repeat offenders can be blocked from editing.

Don't be afraid to edit—anyone can edit almost any page, and we encourage you to be bold! Find something that can be improved, whether content, grammar or formatting, and make it better.

Make your first edit right now:

You can't break Wikipedia. Anything can be fixed or improved later. So go ahead, edit an article and help make Wikipedia the best information source on the Internet!"  :amen:

I think in editing something in the page...you have to post your source? Cause I may think I know more on a subject but might be wrong...which makes the entire document very incomplete and not correct.

first of all Danielle please do not spam the thread anymore like that.

The wiki section itself was meant to be an informative tool. It was meant to get knowledge out there in an enyclopeadic fashion and our main focus is the non Christian membership.

if you have some personal issues then please feel free to use my PM box, I can see if I can help.

If there is no debating allowed, which there isn't and it is just post entries meant to inform about certain subjects of the Christian Faiths then why would you avoid information? Especially if we do not allow bias.....

Hi Karen...I have a 360 blog, too, and no, it can't be a wiki. You are the only one who can post and edit your posts in the 360 blog, whereas in a wiki (as I'm understanding it) other members can edit what you've written. Hope that helps :)
