Forgive me....

By my icon you can see that I am of a Protestant tradition (several actually). I know that many of you in TAW are converts to Orthodoxy from Protestant traditions.

My question would be, are there any of you who have converted to Orthodoxy from "reformed" Protestant traditions? I would politely ask that you PM me for discussion and inquiry as I do not intend to disrupt nor debate in your fine forum.

I am often a lurker and I enjoy reading your posts here in TAW. God bless you all.

Many blessings to you :)

My background is "Church of Christ" (non-denom), not reformed; but wanted to say hello anyway and welcome you to TAW.

God Bless

Howdy:wave:

I came from a mishmash of Methodist and Baptist myself. I think we have some Lutheran converts don't we?

In my opinion - let it rip. As long as you are not nasty we welcome polite discussion. You are not going to disturb things too much I don't think. Certainly no moreso than I did.

Welcome to TAW!

I started Missionary Baptist (OSAS) back in 92 and after about 3-4 years drifted into the Charismatic movement where I stayed until I discovered Holy Orthodoxy here on CF.

I come from a Conservative Baptist (& Evangelical Free) background. I can't say I have a strong reformed vocabulary but I've been generally steeped in Calvinism my whole life...one of those 2.5 calvinists. :)

Welcome to TAW. And don't be afraid to ask a question.

Sometimes a well-phrased question will help another inquirer who doesn't quite know how to formulate a question.

So, please do ask some pointed questions.

It does help to sharpen our wits as we search the Church Fathers and the Holy Scriptures to find the answers.

So ..... let the questions rip. ;)

30 years as a Southern Baptist,

8 years as a Presbyterian.

I'm not sure what we mean when we say reformed... to me, if it's not Orthodox it all reformed... can someone clue me in....

Forgive me...

Thank you all for your gracious invitation to bring my inquiry into the public arena.

Soon, I trust,...

Blessings,

I was a Roman Catholic who began to look East with all the revolutionary changes going on in the Los Angeles Archdiocese thanks to Cardinal Mahoney.

I liked what I saw and I am now safely home in Orthodoxy.

OrthodoxyUSA: generally, "Reformed" means "Calvinist".

I used to be Lutheran, but Lutherans are not reformed so I guess it won't help much in this question.

By the way, I think the terminology is kind of confusing in this regard. There was a 'reformation', but still all the churches that resulted from the 'reformation' are not called 'reformed' as the term 'reformed' is used only about a certain branch of protestantism, Calvinism.

I was raised Lutheran, but I know a number of Reformed converts to Orthodoxy. I'm from the Grand Rapids area, which is basically like Mecca for Christian Reformed people, so a lot of our converts in that area used to be Reformed :-) Offhand, I can think of one priest and former Reformed missionary, a nun, and dozens of families and individuals.

Grace and peace,
John

Hey Clement!

Are you happily PMing with someone while the rest of us wait for the rest of the question? :) It seems like this could lead to interesting discussion.

Or was this just a poll-like inquiry?

Apologies for the misunderstanding. Maybe I should have asked if there are any Calvinist converts to Orthodoxy.

I would be most interested in hearing from former Calvinists.

I am PMing with one person, thanks. Maybe my clarification above will help move me toward the right person.

This is NOT a poll. I would like to have a serious conversation with a Calvinist convert to Orthodoxy. At present, I would just like to have the conversation rather than have an open discussion. I hope you all do not mind my methodology.

Blessings to you all.
