I had such a shock when I found mine - and I loved it - daft thing that it is

I think those of you who don't like them are imposing your will on those of us who actually have a sense of humor and get what they were intended for. They were meant in fun, and those of you who fail to see that are making much ado of nothing.

What does it matter what others think about them? Maybe you should have included "who made you so high and mighty to take my supersoaker from me and then give me 50 blessings as if that were payment for it" for those of us who had them stolen from us? What incredibly bad judgement and poor taste on the part of those who did that to me and Anhelyna.

Further, for those of you who think that it is ok for a heterodox person to paint things that look like icons but are nothing more than sacrilegeous paintings of western people-many of who are not saints: how can you tell me that the super soakers were a bad use of iconography when you just spent an entire thread championing the work of Robert Lentz?

Wow This Is A Great Witness To Those Looking Into Orthodoxy.
You are right. All of TAW is a pretty bad witness to Orthodoxy. From those who present themselves as experts on matters they clearly know nothing about to all of the bickering there goes on between the jurisdictions, and all of the ethnic strife we see in here every now and then. Perhaps it is time I leave TAW and find a much better way to spend my time?

No of course not. It is not your fault at all and I didn't want this to be a punishment or a negative thing, but I think your all forgetting that I am hurting the most because I created these things and now it has caused people to hate each other. I wanted them to be a witness over something light and playful that spirit of love that always pervades Orthodoxy, but instead we have threads like these, and posts where people are attacking each other. If anyone is at fault it is me, I have given you all something that I thought was fun and light hearted and a product of that little child inside of me, but instead you have taken them and pointed them against each other, and made them real weapons of malice and destruction

Is there one forum that is the perfect example? You can choose to isolate yourself from human interaction but let me tell you...I spent many years in apostolic labors....it dosen't necessarily make you perfect and it dosen't necessarily perfect those you minister too. As to this thread - now come on guys - everyone has to let off steam from time to time.
We are now heading into the Fast - and sure enough tempers can get a wee bit short and frazzled as time goes on - YES - even I a Catholic knows that [ well it happens to me too :) ]
I still say that Greg was brilliant doing them - I went green with envy [ and yes envy is a sin] because I can't do anything like that and I wish I could.
Yes I'm glad the Onion Dome was brought up again - it's the same sort of humour - we laugh at ourselves and with each other laughing at ourselves.
The Taverna is meant to be a fun place to hang out - and it often is . It was totally hilarious at Theophany because no-one knew what was going to pop up next - it was light hearted and just seemed to follow on naturally from Christmas/Nativity.
Don't let's enter into the Fast feeling narked at each other .
BTW do we get a thread specially for asking forgiveness on Forgiveness Sunday ? If so I have a sneaking suspicion it will be one of the longest ever :(

Only one person here has cause to be upset, and unfortunately he has been upset by the immaturity and rage of others on this topic. He is very mature and responsible and is a wonderful example of Orthodoxy in all he does, and we should all let him know that.
Greg, I apologise for anything I may have done to offend you, with intent or by accident. You should take nothing here to heart, because you are truly not responsible for the immaturity of others.

"Its Cool!" :)
Greg,
You have absolutely nothing to do with any "hate", if it exists at all here. That people might argue over the Super soakers does not mean you caused it any more than Christ is responsible for the bickering between Catholics and Protestants.
Personally, I like them and think they are on par with the light humor and proper tastes of the Oniondome.
Now, for others.....
I think using Greg's pictures to play on old wounds and to agitate is in incredibly poor taste. It doesn't take a genius to see what's going on here between some people. As Scripture suggests, I would openly call you out here with everyone as a witness to discuss this appropriately, but CF rules do not allow for this.
Also, let me remind someone here that Michael has been going through a very rough time of late. Of course mocking/criticizing a symbol of his and other's lightheartedness and goodwill is going to upset him. It is in very poor taste to rile him and others up. There's an old adage that says if you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say it. If you don't like the mirth of these super soakers, then just please post so anonymously.
Thank you and God bless. Remember, we're all brothers and sisters.

Well, ok, that's not exactly how the old saying goes but I'm sure you get the point. You can't please everyone and no matter what you do, someone is going to dislike it so don't stress over someone else's opinion. Ask your priest if it's sacreligious. I am completely at fault in this, and I ask for your forgiveness for bringing disunity and disharmony to this board. Absolutely not ContriteHeart. You have nothing to be sorry for. This would have happened whether you posted it or not, in fact it is better that it happened now so that everything is now out in the open. People will have their feelings about everything, which I am coming more and more to realize are easily uncovered over the internet. After all you didn't sit over us with a whip or egg us on, you simply asked a question. I doubt it was your intention to cause any trouble. In fact I apologize for you feeling at fault, because it was my actions that just blew everything up.

Dear Greg,
Thank you for your kindness, however I really meant what I said.
In some ways, yes, it was just a question, but in others, who knows the depths of our hearts and why we do the things we do? Honestly, I was irked by some things, and I don't think my heart was completely pure in asking the question to begin with. Therefore, I consider myself responsible, and want to humble myself and ask for your forgiveness. Especially yours, Greg, and Michael's, as you were ones who are most affected by this.

Psalm 133:1-3 (NKJV)
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together in unity!
It is like the precious oil upon the head,
Running down on the beard,
The beard of Aaron,
Running down on the edge of his garments.
It is like the dew of Hermon,
Descending upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the Lord commanded the blessing—
Life forevermore.

Indeed.
But thank God or Erwin that "reasonable pupose" is not a requirement of threads here at CF. Just think how much fun that would be. For everything there is a season...sometimes you need to talk about spiritual things (as is the case most of the time) and sometimes you just need clarification of thought on the role and purpose of the supersoaker.
That being said I think the poll served it's purpose. I was never a big fan of the supersoaker but it's poponents have spoken as is there right....and I'm growing to like it now that people have had there say.;)

That being said I think the poll served it's purpose. I was never a big fan of the supersoaker but it's poponents have spoken as is there right....and I'm growing to like it now that people have had there say.;)
And sometimes Michael and Jameseb just need to ruffle each other's feathers in relation to the football games that weekend! All in good fun, of course!
I once had a person tell me a joke who I totally unexpected to be telling jokes at dinner. There was a Jesuit Priest who was visiting Toledo one weekend and had a bunch of my friends and I over to dinner the night before he gave a 3 day silent retreat. This was a very respected and serious man, who was considered to be a very spiritual man. Hardly the kind of person you would think would tell a joke. And yet, that very fact made the joke he told even funnier. It is actually now my favorite joke:
Renee Descartes was sitting at a bar drinking a beer. When he was finished the bar dender looked up from his newspaper and asked him: would you like another? To which Renee responded: "I think not." And then he disappeared! :D :P ;)

Yup yup, it's not all serious things all the time...But choosing to stay away from a topic that multiple people insist on dragging up again and again because it is hurtful to some would be a good reason to ignore polls--and ignore bad attitudes of those who are intolerant of different opinions, even when expressed with care, rather than continue to contribute an opinion that doesn't want to be heard. Self imposed censorship, I suppose. It's a shame when that has to happen here, or anywhere, really. Makes one feel like honest discussion and free exchange of ideas isn't even possible among those who live in the ways of the Church. I guess people will be fearful, rude, and intolerant everywhere.
With that said, I'm outtie.

I find the supersoaker so irreverent that I am not sure I will able to continue reading this forum if I have to encounter the graphic.

I am sorry you feel that way, but in the end there is freedom of speach on CF as long as we don't violate any of the rules. I don't think any rule has been broken. Has one? I for one plan on keeping the graphic in my signature file for a very long time.

Freedom of speech is not the greatest good and is not to be equated with godliness. As far as I know, no rules are broken. However, the fellowship between you and I has been broken for as long as you choose to use that graphic.
Bye.

It is pretty easy to ignore the graphics, as in most cases you have to scroll down the sig to actually see it. Furthermore you can tell which people have them in there sigs and quite simply, one click of the ignore button will do it. Also if you are that offended then counter it with something in your sig. I don't limit myself to just supersoakers. Here's an example of something with an icon and candles that I can just as easily do for you: http://www1.christianforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=64410&d=1140222229

I guess it really just depends on one's perspective. For me the Super Soaker is a light-hearted reminder that any "flame" tossed at you or another here can be quenched by the humiity and grace of our faith. I have no idea if that was what Greg had in mind, but that is the way I look at the light-hearted Super Soaker. I don't find that irreverent at all, but if the images truly offend one that much, I will remove mine as I do not wish to cause a fellow brother or sister consternation.
If my image offends one of you, please PM me and let me know and I'll remove it. However, I would caution one as to how much reverence they place on such objects.
Respectfully,
Eric

Something I learned from leaving the seminary and the Catholic Church, if someone stops being your friend because of a minor thing (like leaving seminary or a holy water super soaker) they were not really your friend in the first place.

If this really meant that much to you, I would think you would have sent me a pm asking to discuss the matter with me.

The poll and thread has run its course and I have respectfully requested that it now be closed.
Thank you to all who participated.
