View Full Version : A Confession...

Well, knowing that Im pregnant you all might expect me to be a bit of a wackadoo at times and thank you for the grace you allow me... Im sure you can also relate to the various struggles you begin to go through as your newly learning about Orthodoxy... but beyond that I must confess that I am terribly relationally deprived and have emotional needs that are hard for me not to bring onto CF. I loathe being subjective but I know no matter how hard I try to have a healthy perspective on things my present state will cause me to stumble alot. Sometimes I go quite awhile without hanging out in TAW but this last week Ive been especially troubled and unable to focus on my books and have tried to ease my anxieties by communicating here...
Its been a week since I poured my heart out in an email to my Priest and havent heard back yet and as much as I want to stay calm Im feeling terribly anxious... plus with the whole 'bleeding episode' Ive been especially tense. Anyways, I really dont have any friends to seek comfort from so if I seem a bit desperate or edgy I wanted you guys to know why.
Im not going to DL tomorrow, I really need to rest, (though I cant sleep right now). Please pray for me...

We all go through the rough times like this (though I guess even more so for those who have babies jumpin around inside :) ). My priest sometimes takes a while to respond to my emails. He's a pretty busy guy, but he always ends up making time for me in the end. Sometimes it just takes a little while.
You can IM me anytime if you want to talk (or vent). AIM SN is innerphyre.

I love being subjective. :D I have never had a baby, but I am married to someone who has had a few. So basically, you go through periods where you are just "nuts";). I did too. So it must be amplified for you, plus the complications... Just do what you need to, Vent here or wherever
Concerning your priest email situation. I email my spiritual father. He never responds, at least via email. He prays for me. But he calls me out of the blue, or sends me something via email a month later, and completely unrelated.
Your priest is probably praying for you and you don't even know it. The Orthodox are rarely "hasty".

Take care of that baby, EvangeliGirl.
With your recent episode in the hospital, I am sure that your priest would want to to get plenty of bed rest so that your child can live.
Hey, what are you doing up anyway.
Get to bed, okay.:D :groupray:

Thanks, I know he's really good about it, he actually emailed me back right after I sent mine to say to give him a 'couple days'. I guess I forgot to translate that into Orthodox time! ;) Whats your estimate?

Thats very kind of you but Ive never IMed before! Sounds scary... I dont work 'instantly'!
And thanks, Theophorus. Yeah, I know he wont reply unless hes had the time to be diligent. I was humbled by how he replied to my first email by discussing it point by point... I dont know how an Orthodox priest has time to do anything besides be an Orthodox priest but he edits a magazine, too! I believe its the mercy of God his congregation isnt any larger than it is because he's so commited to them he'd never sleep! I'd imagined him sitting up late into the night, answering emails, and I told myself I must be content reading up on things and not torture the poor man! Then he mentioned once that he received 2500-3000 emails a week (gasp!) So I tried to leave him alone for awhile which only led to a three page email after I finally broke dpwn. Im so good at inadvertently torturing myself...
Ill be alright though! I think Im actually feeling I might be able to try and go rest. Thanks guys...

I'll remember you at DL this morning. The "communion of the saints" thing - i.e., you'll be there with all of us. :groupray:

I'm forgivensinner01 and my wife is msgal63 on Yahoo IM so if you ever want to chat, just send one of us a message. My wife likes playing those IM games like Text Twist and she also plays on Pogo (dominoes, backgammon, etc) so if you just want to hang out and chat you guys could set up something like that.
I would offer to play dominoes but I'm more of a World of Warcraft kind of guy. ;)

My priest is used to getting 'novels' now and again. He also gets a lot of email but he is also so busy with both a full time job, a family and being a full time priest. This way I know he knows what's going on in my life and if there then is something important going on I'll email him a very short email with just one or max two questions to answer. Or even call him.
I think sometimes we just need to get things out and know someone has read/listened and know what's going on. They might answer, they might not, but just knowing that someone else knows who cares might be enough to give us calm.
My prayers are with you and the baby. My friend is a week overdue today and my husband's sister is due in less than 10 days...

I hope you're feeling a little better this morning. Being pregnant makes all mommies a little crazy. Just be aware that it doesn't go away after the birth.

Couple of days in Orthodox time? Am thinking is couple weeks. Is not rushing with fancy electronic mail in Orthodoxy. Is rushing to love neighbor. Is rushing toward kingdom of heaven. Is it using fake mail in 19th Century Russia? Am thinking is not.

Thanks, Kamikat. I am feeling much better. I plan to be on guard after the birth... With my first child I struggled more with perinatal depression but not so much post-partum... But back then, I was just getting out of some pretty icky things Id been struggling with.
Can I share a conversion story when I become a Cathecumen? (I think I spell that word different every time I write it...) Even waiting til then will be hard... :)

Either of those 2 transitional times of life are a full time occupation. Both at once? Easy overload!
but beyond that I must confess that I am terribly relationally deprived and have emotional needs that are hard for me not to bring onto CF.
I suspect that's why a lot of us are here...

I may get in trouble for saying this, :sorry: but just wait til a few weeks into Lent...there will be some testy folks stumbling thru here.

I think we're related. I do the same thing...turn to TAW for interaction to help me thru troubling or low times, just the talking seems to help. I've been attending a women's discussion group at my parish and that has been a wonderful connection and encouragement for me.
Do you have a CD of the Divine Liturgy? I have one put out by St. Vladimir's Seminary. It's beautiful. Anyways, sometimes I listen to it if I can't get to church on Sunday. I also listen when I'm worried or tense, or driving in the car. :) It helps change my attitude.
