View Full Version : Would our 'chapel' better serve us as a sticky?

I noticed a post by Erwin a couple of days ago which said we should all remain vigilent and alert him of underused fora, and i was wondering whether our chapel would be more useful as a sticky (for adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication) while also perhaps having frequent threads which arise for things such as praying the rosary or inspiration prayers etc. That way maybe prayer could become a much more integral aspect of this congregation.,

(It was established on the 8th February last year and in that time it's had just 290 posts, and the last post was on the 3rd of January)

I'm inclined to concur. I don't like sub-sub-fora. And I'm thinking a few of our stickies could afford to be combined, too...

I agree, especially things like 'outline of the faith' and links can be reduced. There are both good to have (especially outline) but if someone wants to find out about Anglicanism should we really make them sit through 22 somewhat long posts?!

I would definitely prefer to see prayer threads on the board itself. When we've tried stuff on here, it's done well, but when people try to start rosaries and such in the chapel, they die out rather quickly.

I agree. I think the Chapel should be made a sticky. I also think that the St. Lawrence and Ss. Francis and Benedict lounges should be combined into one thread focusing on discernment and vocation.

If the chapel does become a sticky, do i get to rename it?

I can't decide between 'Tom's chapel of coolnes' or 'Guns 'n Roses house of prayer'.

Choices, choices.

We could go with "Paradise City". Double meaning. ;)

Or instead of 'The Lady Chapel' it could be 'sweet child 'o mine'.

The third "Guns N Roses" song I know is "November Rain" and I can't figure out how to relate that one to religion. :)

What do you think of Velvet Revolver, the newest project for Slash and a lot of the old GnR band members? I have their first CD and actually found it pretty enjoyable. I should probably mention, especially given the "looking for housing thread", that I'm much more into the James Taylor, Phill Collins, and Peter Cetera type of music (i.e. soft rock). But I like the occasional hard rock CD and this one was a really excellent one, top to bottom. I just can't listen terribly often because I get migraines. :)

I haven't heard any of the stuff- i shall add it onto my 'CDs to buy list'.

Of course, if i do not like it then i will be very angry!!!!!

It's essentially the Guns N Roses band with the old lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots out in front instead of Axl Rose. It's great musically, but, fairly warning, just like Guns N Roses, it's loud (Actually maybe even a bit louder than Guns N Roses) and there are some explicit lyrics. So, it's not for everyone. If you like Guns and Roses, though, you'll probably like this. :)

Never followed this up when i was a mod. Anyone still think this is a good idea?

Prayer should be a fundemental aspect of our forum life together, not something stuck in a separate forum where no-one ever visits.

It wouldn't work, IMO. The Chapel contains lots of seperate threads, and works best that way. If it were a sticky, it would be just one thread, and there would be no continuity in the different themes that run through it now.

 We could have a sticky linking to the Chapel subforum! That would make the Chapel more prominent, and still give us the varying thread capacity!

What i had in mind was a thread dealing spefic with prayer requests etc and for the other threads to be integrated in the main part of the forum. Why can't we have a thread to pray the rosary together or talk about our favourite hymns or list prayers that we like in the main part of the forum? The fact is that people (myself included) just aren't using the chapel - while ideally it would nice to contain all prayer items there, i people aren't using it then what is it's purpose?

I'm not too sure I understand what you're saying.
You're saying the Chapel sticky should just be for prayer? And it would be a mixed prayer thread (not focussed only on the Rosary or the Jesus prayer, but both and more in the same sticky prayer thread)?
Or are you saying the sticky would be for prayer requests only, and all other prayer threads such as the rosary and Jesus prayer threads and fav. hymn threads etc. would just be posted into the main (un-stickied) part of the forum?

I don't like that idea.

Pretty much. The sticky would be a place for any posters to add prayer requests and an opportunity for us to pray along with them. Everything else could act as part of the main forum.

You just need to look at the prayers for healing thread. That has had far more replies (and i'm sure far more praying) than if it was located in the chapel. Why did Higgs post it in the main forum? I dare say because she thought that no-one would see it if it was in the chapel. Isn't it better to focus things like in one aspect of the forum rather than splitting them over two?

If we do that, we should call it a Prayer Thread (or something more creative sounding) rather than Chapel, in my view.

However, they would disappear into history as many are so old.

Well, actually, in looking closer, I could only find about 4 that could be moved out of there into the main forum:
An interesting experiment
Isle of Wight, England
Happy Easter
almost home
I think what happens sometimes is people used to see our chapel as a subheading under the Scripture, Tradition and Reason heading on the Main front page of the forum, and if they didn't know better, they would click into there, thinking it WAS the main part of our forum.

karen freeinchristman

It's not actually listed as a sub-heading on the front page of the forum, but it is the first thing people see when they scroll down after getting into STR.

I'm not following - why wouldn't we be able to move the other threads in the chapel into the main forum?

Well, because they are prayer threads. They belong in the Chapel.

Are you saying to move ALL of the Chapel threads into the main part of the forum and beginning anew with a sticky prayer thread? And getting the Chapel closed up?

TomUK
5th November 2007, 08:12 PM
OK, point taken. It might be inappropriate to move the old threads over. Certainly my idea with this was to close the chapel completely and integrate prayer much more in the main forum.

I dunno. I wonder what other people think.

I can understand what you are getting at, though.
