Why do people make fun of us who believe in Christ? Why do they feel the need to make fun of us?

 Why do children poke fun of the kid with the funny name? Because it's unusual to them and they don't understand it, which makes them feel stupid so they lash out as an offensive defense.

Don't sweat it; Christ had to put up with a whole lot more. ;)

There is very little persecution in North America for christians compared to other certain countries, like egypt , pakistan , North Korea , etc...
Getting made fun of really isn't that bad...

Hi, They insult you because of Christ. Hang in there. You are having an effect on them. God Bless you.

Luke 6
22Blessed are you when men hate you,
when they exclude you and insult you
and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
23"Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their fathers treated the prophets.

Actually it is a defence mechanism. When a non believer see you they are confronted by their sin even before you have opened your mouth. They know, intuitively they are sinners in need of salvation and that God will require them. They don't like it.

Non believers make fun of believers to convince themselves of the rightness of their unbelief.

Deep down they know the truth and take this way to ease their consciences for not practicing what they know in their hearts is true.

BTW: Don't sweat it. Let them make all the fun they want. We know the truth, and they will eventually find out that truth. Hopefully, before it is too late to save their souls.

I believe it is the Enemy using them to attack Christians. Think about it. If you told a non-Christian that you were Buddhist or Jewish or Hindu or Muslim or whatever they'd probably react with indifference or even interest in something different. You tell them that you are a Christian and they call you a freak or tell you you're hiding behind the Bible or using Christianity as a crutch. The enemy's not going to attack something that ultimately won't harm him, so he leaves the other religions alone. He knows that salvation through Jesus is the only way, and of course he wants to prevent people from knowing that.

"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me." - John 15:18-21

There is criticism of Christianity because of the news media. Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell will say something outrageous or Fred Phelps will picket another funeral. The media finds events such as these easy to criticize.

Also, the debates over the past few years would lead many to believe that all Christians are obsessed with gay marriage and abortion.

However, most Americans don't actually ridicule most Christians. Their neighbor who attends church regularly is likely seen as a good person, not a crazy one.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who waited until adulthood to get saved, and has done the same thing.
If we're honest, it's because we thought being a Christian was being a "goody two shoes", while the rest of us were out there having fun. We were drinking, drugging, whorin' around, and we thought everybody who didn't, in the name of God, was wierd. We didn't understand it, and it was easier to make fun of them, then to actually try to understand it.

I believe it is the Enemy using them to attack Christians. snip .

Quite literally, true. One of the best tool Satan has developed, or caused to be developed, is TOLERANCE.

Every time our society is convinced to tolerate bad conduct in the name of tolerance, we lose more ground, as a society. We now tolerate all kinds of sinful behavior. Homosexuality, the murder of unborn children, total chaos with respect to sexual morality, kiddie porn (where the perpetrators are "understood" and sent to rehab centers instead of punished), just for starters.

Things will only get worse in the months, years ahead until Christ raptures us out of this evil world. The only question is when He comes, and that nobody knows, "except the Father".
