My mother in law is thinking about getting breast implants. She says that she is getting old and things are headed south..
I don't agree on this.. As a Christian, God made your body as a temple...
I tried to tell her my opinion, but I need some advice.
What are your views on plastic surgey?
In a Christian outlook, is it okay to altar your body?
I don't want to feel like I am confronting her... Your advice will be greatly appriecated.. God Bless... Thank you .

I don't think breast implants or other plastic surgery should be done to boost your own image of yourself. But, that is just me.

There is nothing wrong with plastic sugery
but there maybe something wrong with why she is doing it...with the breast implants, unless your a cancer survivor and need to have it, the other to me is just vanity.
Yet, I still believe the temple is not destroyed..only altered.
I would be more concerned if she were doing something more harmful...such as alcohol or drugs.
In any case if she dosen't feel it will interfere with her relationship with God, then it probably won't.

2 points i wanna say as my answer/opinion
1) u hear alot about surgery going wrong or becoming infected so its not gd for the body health wise...altering, stuffing it with foreign material, stretching etc etc
2) i strongly believe that every one of us is beautiful!! No one needs altering, n soz to be blunt especially something petty like boobs. Every woman is different but thts what makes us beautiful and unique! Fair enough they might "heading south" but soz that comes with age, its natural, age with grace i say.
but yeah...im anti plastic surgery....unless uve been in a horrible accident n need reconstructive surgery i think thats abit more acceptable, but to "enhance beauty" ppfffttt na, cobblers i say.

If she had some disfiguring injury or illness I don't think you would even hesitate to say it is OK. Surely nobody would. Why should this be any different? Have you ever excersized to get into shape? Have you ever even once worn any kind of makeup?
If the barn needs painting, I say paint it. IMO.

i dont think its a big issue, leave it to her. She's old enough to deside for herself

IS THIS A MEDICALLY NECESSARY SURGERY NEEDED TO SAVE HER LIFE, OR IS IT THAT SHE DOES NOT FEEL GOOD ABOUT HERSELF? I am for it only if it is needed to save their life. Other than that, anyone that gets plastic surgery does not feel good about themselves, and therefore does not have God in their life. People should always feel good aboyut themself no matter what they look like. God's creation is very beautiful. But if you start messing with God's creation, you are messing around with God, and that is definately wrong.

MAYBE IF SHE DOES IT SHE CAN FINALLY GET HER MIND OFF HER BREAST AND BACK ON GOD.
I DON'T KNOW, I WOULDN'T DO IT MYSELF BUT I CAN'T SAY WHAT IS RIGHT FOR HER.
LIKE I SAID IN AN EARLIER POST IT IS VANITY, BUT THEN I FELT SOMEWHAT CONVICTED BECAUSE I WEAR A PUSH-UP BRA, MAKEUP, HAVE MY NAILS DONE OCCASIONALLY, AND I REALIZE THAT REALLY IT IS THE SAME THING. IT'S JUST THAT ONE IS A MORE PERMANENT SOLUTION.....MAYBE SHE CAN GET IT DONE AND GET IT OFF HER MIND, BUT WITH ME IT IS ROUTINE AND SOMETHING I HAVE TO DO DAILY. SO I DON'T KNOW, I GUESS PEOPLE SHOULD MAKE UP THEIR OWN MIND.
GOD HAS A WAY, THAT INNER VOICE THAT LET'S YOU KNOW WHEN YOUR THINKING IS WRONG DOSEN'T HE.
JUST LIKE THE DAY A WOMAN CAME IN TO CHURCH AND SHE HAD HER MAKEUP PERMANETLY TATTOOED ON HER FACE, MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS, WHY DID SHE DO THAT TO HERSELF, THEN I REFLECTED BACK TO MY IMAGE IN THE MIRROR, AND THOUGHT, HOW JUDGEMENTAL OF ME WHEN I SPEND ALL THAT TIME, EVERYDAY DOING THE SAME THINGS, MAYBE THIS WOMAN HAS MORE TIME TO SPEND WITH GOD, NOT WORRYING WITH HOW SHE LOOKS EVERYDAY:doh:
NEEDLESS TO SAY, I TRY NOT TO BE JUDGEMENTAL,
I GOT TIRED OF TRYING TO REMOVE THOSE PLANKS FROM MY EYES;)

It's been said before, it all depends on her motive. It's not going to help her for very long though.

The problem with that is once you've substituted one thing for God, you'll find another. It's rooted in some level of disinterest in God to begin with. All humanity is guilty of that.

will my views are just like your. First you are right our bodies are temples of Gods and he specifically says that he doesn't want us to tatoe or pierce bodies so if you ask me I think this does fall under tatoeing and piercing

This is your mother in law right? I don't think it would be wise to tell her what is right and what is wrong. This is a personal decision for her.
More than likely she won't recieve anything you have to say on the issue. Especially if it is contrary to her thinking on the issue.
It isn't a big deal. If she wants and can afford the surgery, why not? It is a personal matter between her and her husband.
I don't think you should tell that you think it is wrong. It might cause a wedge between you.

Well temples need upkeep, maintenance and repairs on ocassion. Nothing wrong with replacing the furniture in the temple.

I have been getting ALL kinds of answers.
I came to the conclusion that I don't agree what she is doing, but it is between her and GOD.
I personally beleive we shouldn't enhance our bodies just to boost our image. That is pride. and a sin..
Yes ~ she is my mother in law.. but that is just a word to me.. she is my MOM.
She is old enough to make her own opinion on this.. but I did let her know my beleifs..~~ and she said she is glad I did..
I just don't want to give the wrong message to my kids.. they should love who they are, and not feel like if they don't like something, they can just change it..
I beleive it has to do more with an emotionally issue..

How about the eyes of her husband? I think everyone feels more confident in the bedroom if they are confident in their appearance. Not saying that is a healthy or Godly perspective, just a fact of human nature.
I've know women who have had enhancements, not so much to feel better, but not to feel bad. It comes down to being so concerned over their appearance they can't feel comfortable in normal social situations. Again, not saying this is right, but a fact of human nature.

Possibly, but maybe she hates her breast so much, it has become a distraction, so better to take care of it and go on with things, maybe she loves everything else about herself and this would stop the distraction. (kind of like it's better to marry than to burn thing) yes it is possible that she might just find something else after that is done with...but I don't think that is always the case.

I promise I don't mean this ugly but women tend to forget why we have boobs anyways. They are for feeding your babies!!!!! Not for glamour or to look like the victoria secret gals (ANYONE WOULD WANNA LOOK LIKE THEM).My mother n law wants a face lift, boob job, veins erased, tummy tuck. And what aggrivates me the most is when she watched "The Passion of the Christ," the first thing she said was,"I am not having any cosmetic surge." That tells me that vanity is a sin and you know what, we are all guilty. I wear makeup and to be honest, it's no different,(except, I am not having big thingy's put where my breast are! I hope you can find some piece with this, I get so aggrivated sometimes. Let's take Joyce Myer for instance, I just adore this Preacher & Teacher. She had a face lift and said she prayed about it and didn't use tithe money that was received by her members. Talk about blow your mind. I feel we all have to pray about everything, and if you don't feel convicted by the Holy Spirit, then don't worry about it..

If it was something that would put her at risk, then God would have a problem with it. Otherwise it is a trivial thing which is not an issue with God.

Maybe I am a bit different, I don't know, but my wife shows the effects of the sacrifices she made to bear my children. She is good looking even in the eyes of the world, but she could have been even better. That does not make her ugly to me, it makes her more beautiful than any other for only she has done those things for me.
That makes her so beautiful in my eyes that all those perky young things haven't got a chance.
I don't understand the plastic surgery.
It would be like seeing the nail marks and the cut in the side of my Lord and thinking he should get them fixed, it all seems so wierd to me.

This is a profound post in my opinion!
The scriptures teach that it works against our church services for women to adorn their bodies like they do. Make-up, fancy clothes, and flashy jewelery, are downplayed in the New Testament. (1Tim.2:9-10) and (1Pet.3:3-4)
If a woman is teaching and preaching to the secular public like Joyce Myers is, it is necessary she adorn herself as such because they stongly believe that a woman only appear in public as such.
So, I would think it be advised for for women to adorn themselves somewhat when they go out in public. If other women are making negative comments on certain body parts (sagging breasts) or not enough of or bad make-up, etc., then for the secular folks, go ahead and fix these things. For the assembly's sake though, they should appear as the scripturs teach God wants them to appear before Him.

Plastic surgery is not addressed in Scripture. Remember the bodies we live in are for our use only in this life. In eternity we will have different bodies. I see nothing wrong with your MIL getting breast implants. I would be more concerned about her attitude about her body. In other words, does she think she is her body?

Okay... what do you all think of this..
I just found out my MIL is letting her 21 year old daugther get implants (breast). She said the reason she is letting her get them is because she is self conscience of her body.. and she has been wanting to have them since she was a little girl.
Personally, it makes me sick!

I would never alter my body in any way but to each his own. I would let her make her own decision on this. I really don't see anything wrong with it even though I don't agree with plastic surgery, it's her business.

Oh yeah.. she is 21 and works at Hooters.. her mom pays for her to eat at home...
mom pays the mortgage.
She might be 21.. but not grown up...
Her mind is on partying. and drinking and other things that I shall not post..
She should be worrying more of her furture.. then the size of her breast..
But, I am just letting stuff off my chest. it just hurts me to see her like this..

I didn't mean to seem cold, you seem like a very caring person.
Oh...well then that is another whole set of issues(no pun intended) really, as long as her mom...pays for everything....she dosen't have to worry about the future. Sounds like they both need prayer:prayer:
I have seven children, so I know the pain of seeing them, not go the way that is best for them. Was she brought up in church? because if there were good seeds planted I believe...she will eventually come back to it.

Well if plastic surgery is done for vanity, then it's wrong. If it is done because there is a medical necessity, i.e. reconstructive from accident, etc., then it's acceptable.

I spoke with a very well respected christian of mine on this subject not too long ago... and we both agreed with several others that plastic surgery unless for medical reasons(after a car accident or burns) is unnecessary.... God made you the way He did.... plus for as long as it will last it is too expensive... and you will never be happy.... just look at some celebraties that have had multiple surgeries... they looked better without them... that is where I and several others stand on the subject...

IMO...
the only way the plastic surgery is really acceptable for a Christian is if they were involved in an accident which caused some sort of deformation. More re-construction than artificial enhancements.
