I have a question about the usuage of the word "fruitful" in the ot.

I have a non believer that is saying that is use strictly for making more childern..

As God told Adam.. go forth and be fruitful..

But, I see it a different meaning..

To go out and tell everyone about God.. to be fruitful in a sense of spreading the love and compassion that God has for us..

What are your opinions? I would greatly appricate any help..

God Bless!

My NLT Bible says " be fruitful and multiply". What He is saying here is to fill the earth with other humans and rule over everything that's in it.

" And "Go therefore and make disciples," corresponds to "Be fruitful and multiply." In other words, the people of God are an evangelizing, persuading, recruiting, missionary people because God is God Almighty and Jesus is the absolute authority in the universe.

Could it be that God was discussing BOTH creating life and discipling to others?

Depends on the context. With Adam and Eve, it definitely means have lots of children. In Psalm 107:33-34, it simply means that the land was good and productive.
