If you are wanting our response, I would say NEB is a very clear and appealing translation, when compared with the two others you have given. :)

We used the NEB when at school, 25ish years ago.

I picked up a brand new one at a school fete last summer for only 5p! Couldn't resist - for old time's sake, as well as my inability to walk away from a bible bargain.

I love it. I read it to pieces (the soft-back one with the Oxford Study Notes, that I bought as an atheist at a University end-of-term clearance sale and that brought me home to Jesus). I just cleaned out some old boxes and found the last page of Manasseh that I thought was lost for ever, so I now have all the pieces of it.

I also have an illustrated children's edition that I found in the nursery after having forgotten it's existance (I'd bought ten on discount for the Sunday School I was teaching at that time, about twenty years ago) and a copy that has the BCP 1962 bound in between the OT and the Apocrypha.

Back when I was baptized, the NEB was the standard lectionary-Bible in the ACC. I understood that it fell out of favour largely because it was too "English" for the large American readership base, who preferred the more colloquially American phraseology of the NIV. Since the NIV was becoming the bible of choice in RCL study materials, it became more desirable and displaced the NEB.

I have my father's confirmation gift NEB--he's moved on to an NIV that's bigger print since his eyesight is not good enough for the tiny text any more.

WOW, i've never really read the NEB but seeing it compared to the NIV in that way makes me really want to get one.
