Top of the morning to you!
Hi Tom!
Just took my cat to the vet to be spayed. The house seems empty without her! :sigh:
She'll be home this afternoon, though. Not looking forward to picking her up because I have to go through the tunnel to Liverpool where the vet is. (I use the vet at the University since I am a member of staff and get a discount). Traffic isn't my favourite item, especially looking for a parking space at the University when there aren't any spaces available. Parking illegally, dashing in, and hoping I don't get a ticket in the interrum. :sorry:

I have some pretty cutwork and hardanger-lace pillowcases that look very nice ironed. I do use them unironed if I run out of ironed ones and can still find them among the rest of the pile in the ironing basket, but it makes me unhappy.

I have made a blessings pledge in the bank, similer to the one Colonal did, in an effort to get the total to 300,000 by the start of Lent. 15,000 blessings need to be given by 28th Feb, and I'll then match it. But only if the 15k are in place already.
As it stands right now, 13,800 is still needed by the end of this month.
Can it be done?
Andy Broadley
13th February 2006, 02:57 PM
And of course, the easiets way to raise those blessings is to post to the most.

Well, Rachel didn't forget her valentines today -- it was her ballet-bag last week, and Dean who did the one-hour circuit to deliver it. But yeah, sympathy from one who's been there. Of course, I've also been the mother who's at the all-night pharmacy buying the last three boxes of valentines cards at 11pm on February 13, so I don't have a lot of moral high ground, I suppose.

DH threw a sickie (justified, man-flu) last Monday. Just as he made his decision, there was a news story about how that day was statistically the one with the highest sickness absence. It didn't help that he is American and it was the day after some big sporting event (he honestly didn't watch it). Needless to say, he did feel guilty and dragged himself in the next day.
I'm on my third week of whatever is sweeping the country. I think I prolonged it by not taking time off work when I was at my worst - but I hadn't prepared for it, and didn't want to burden my colleagues (who were also unwell).
Take the time off and enjoy the Olympics.

First rule is to be minimalist - it means there is less to get broken, be fought over, to lose pieces of, and to be thrown out.
The problem with my flock is that they do not follow my clearly stated and oft repeated rules - like 'no eating in the living room'. It doesn't seem to count if there are no plates involved, hence handfuls and pocketfuls of cereal, aaaarrrrggggh!

Note the complete lack of dirty laundry at my feet! I took an EMPTY -- completely empty! -- ironing basket down to the laundry this morning.
Which is a good thing for my overall anxiety levels, since right now two plumbers are busy in my buttery trying to remove a ten-foot cast-iron ninety-five-year-old plumbing stack that has a hole in it big enough to put my fist through. Inches away from my ninety-five-year-old wood-panelled diningroom walls.

TomUK
16th February 2006, 07:15 PM
Ah ha!
Here's two Kempis quotes. I think they both speak for themselves and i definitely think they complement each other.
What good does it do you to be able to give a learned discourse on the Trinity, while you are without humility, and thus are displeasing to the Trinity? Esoteric words neither make us holy nor righteous; only a virtuous life makes us beloved of God. I would rather experience repentance in my soul than know how to define it.
A man's spiritual progress is put to the test by trials and temptations, and by resolutely bearing up under them he not only gains greater merit but gives evidence of his virtue. There is nothing remarkable in a devout and fervent man being without trials, but if he suffers patiently in times of adversity, then, there is hope for great spiritual advancement.

Okay, we're off to the doc in about an hour. Baby's fever spiked to 103+ last night and I can't get it down. Please keep us in your prayers.
:prayer:
I'm glad you are going to the doctor. Let us know how it goes!

Thanks all! She's okay. White cell count a little up but no ear infection. Did a couple tests, gave her a shot of antibiotic, but not a severe infection. Her fever is down a lot now and she's falling asleep. Poor thing, she had arough time at the doc and now she just wants to be held. Thanks for keep us in your thoughts and prayers. More later when I have 2 hands to type.

How old is she? That's an awfully high tempature for anyone, but particularly for a baby.

She's 16 months old. I'm waiting for the doctor to call, I spoke with a nurse.

I'm pleased her temperatures come down again - perhaps the nature of the antibiotics is that they take a little time to kick in...?
Anway i'm off to bed. I hope the rest of your day is a little more calm Higgs.

My dad loves having online taxes. He does it in about an hour now, he feeds in the information from the computer, and BAM, we have our tax info. Not that we pay any tax, being gift-funded. :)

Our British ones are all online and, really, it takes a matter of minutes. I was gobsmacked by how easy the process was. I'm looking forward to April when I get to do it all over again :D .
For the US ones, I do it on Turbotax, but then have to print it out and send it by snail mail.

I would PM you, because I would like to know about the mission, but since the upgrade, I can't seem to PM anyone! Previously, we could click on someone's name, and it would give us a menu which included 'PM so-and-so now' or something. That doesn't happen anymore. Am I the only one, or are others also having this problem?

What browser are you using, and what operating system? I'm not encountering it yet, in any of the six browser/OS configurations I have available.
In the meantime, you can go to the upper righthand corner of the page, where it says "welcome karenfreeinchristman", and click where it says "Private Messages: 0". Then go halfway down the menu on the lefthand side and click where it says "New message", and manually type SirTimothy into the addressee box.

Ah, Timothy...you are not the only domesticated man! My DH is also skilled in the domestic arts...which is great because I do not resemble Martha Stewart in the slightest.
FWIW, women really do appreciate men who help out.

I'm an excellent chef and have done my own laundry since I was probably around the age of ten. Cleaning isn't really my forte, but everyone has an achilles heel. ;)

Maybe you could be an au pair...basically looking after school-aged children - getting them to school, chivvying them along with their homework and chores, cooking their tea, playing with them, doing their laundry. You get accomodation thrown in.
